A Day of Kid Friendly Fun in Kenosha.

Kenosha has so much to offer families, especially grandparents looking to connect their grandkids to history in a fun way. We recently took our four Kids on a time traveling trip in Kenosha – and it was a blast for all ages.

Our journey into the past got started with a ride on one of Downtown Kenosha’s hidden gems, - the electric streetcars. Kenosha has seven beautifully restored electric streetcars that provide a loop around the downtown area. The two-mile loop offers a scenic tour of the Lake Michigan shoreline, HarborPark, the Sculpture Walk, and two of the city’s four historic districts.  Stops include the Kenosha Transit Center, the METRA train station, and the FREE downtown parking garage, making the streetcar a great people-mover. The streetcars are wheelchair accessible, as well.

Next on our time-traveling excursion was a trip back to Kenosha’s automobile manufacturing and industrial past at the Kenosha History Center. The kids had an awesome time here, discovering how Kenosha was a booming industrial powerhouse and home to the longest running automobile manufacturing facility in US History, the American Motors Corporation. The museum has something for everyone! Like strange clickity-clacking devices for communicating over long vast distances… Or Ancient Toys! (well, antique, anyways…).

After leaving the museum, we traveled a short distance in time and space to visit a famous American dining establishment: a Drive-In restaurant. In this case, Big Star Drive-In. We ordered our food to go and ate at one of the numerous local parks. Watching the grandkids tear through corn dogs, burgers, chicken strips and copious amounts of French fries was wild. I had my hands full devouring a huge-normous bacon double cheeseburger…

Summer 2016

Our return to normal space-time in Downtown Kenosha just happened to land us outside of Scoops, one of my local “go-to” ice cream establishments, along with Sandy’s Popper and Smar-Tea’s / Trini’s.

All good things must come to a close, so as all Awesome Grandparents do, we dropped the kids back off with their parents, exhausted, but on an amazing sugar high!

And then I took a long nap.
