India Masala House: We chose Kenosha because it has been an important part of our lives. The city is diverse and growing, making it the perfect place to bring authentic Indian cuisine to a community that appreciates new culinary experiences.

Visit Kenosha: R.D., as a Wisconsinite, and J.J., with your culinary training in India, how do your backgrounds influence the restaurant’s identity and menu?
India Masala House: Our backgrounds are reflected in the name of our restaurant: India Masala House. The word "House" symbolizes our invitation to everyone to experience an authentic, hearty Indian meal. Our unique mix of cultural influences plays a big role in shaping both the identity of the restaurant and our menu.

Visit Kenosha: Can you share more about the journey from dreaming of this restaurant to making it a reality? What were some of the challenges you overcame along the way?
India Masala House: R.D. comes from a family of entrepreneurs, and J.J.'s background in culinary arts ignited our passion for opening India Masala House. The journey was challenging but rewarding, as we had to carefully plan everything from the menu to the décor, all while navigating the complexities of starting a new business.

India Masala House: We offer an immersive experience of Indian culture, from the moment you walk in. The décor, food authenticity, and even the music transport you to India. Additionally, we offer many options for vegans and gluten-free diners, ensuring everyone can enjoy our offerings.

Visit Kenosha: What inspired the name “India Masala House,” and how does it reflect the dining experience you want to offer?
India Masala House: The name represents the heart of Indian cuisine—spices (or "masala")—and the idea of a welcoming, home-like atmosphere for all guests. We want to share authentic Indian flavors in a warm, inviting setting, where people feel at home.

Visit Kenosha: Your butter chicken has been highly praised. What makes it, and your other dishes, stand out as authentically Indian?

Visit Kenosha: For newcomers to Indian cuisine, what dishes do you recommend starting with, and why?
India Masala House: We recommend the Chicken Malai Tikka, a mild and creamy dish made with chicken cooked in our tandoor oven, topped with a delicious sauce. You can also try our Onion Bhaji or Paneer Pakora as appetizers. For a more classic choice, our Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala are both beloved for their rich flavors.

Visit Kenosha: How do you incorporate authentic Indian cooking techniques and spices into your menu to ensure the highest quality and flavor?
India Masala House: One of the techniques we use is cooking in the tandoor, a traditional clay oven that infuses our meats and breads with incredible flavor. Additionally, we use a variety of spices that are crucial to Indian cooking, ensuring every dish is packed with authentic taste.

Visit Kenosha: If you could share a meal with someone special at India Masala House, which dishes would you choose, and why?
India Masala House: It would have to be our traditional Chicken Makhni (Butter Chicken). The in-bone version is particularly delicious, and there’s something about the combination of spices and creaminess that makes it irresistible. It's a dish that I believe represents the heart of what we do at India Masala House.

Visit Kenosha: What do you hope first-time diners take away from their experience at India Masala House?
India Masala House: We want first-time diners to feel like they’ve just had a mini getaway, enjoying both the environment and the food. Our hope is that they’ll feel connected to the experience and want to return for more.
