10,000 Steps Route: KENOSHA COUNTY VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK

Kenosha County Veterans Memorial Park which was formerly known as “KD Park” is a tranquil refuge of nature nestled in western Kenosha County. Situated just north of the village of Twin Lakes, the park boasts a 39 acre lake and diverse landscapes including former agricultural land, woods, prairies, and oak savanna. A new addition to the park is the Honor Plaza dedicated to our nation’s armed forces.

If you start your adventure in the parking lot near the Honor Plaza you will find several trails to explore nearby. Starting on the “white trail” heading east before turning south, you can view some of the dense woodland and hidden ponds before emerging into the more open spaces south of the lake. Switching to the “red trail” to pass east then north around the lake you will find the swaths of oak savanna which offer lovely vistas across the water. Heading back to the south and west you will pass through the agricultural land and start to approach the Honor Plaza once more. Stop to pay your respects and rest up, because you are more than halfway through your journey already.

For leg 2, start on the same segment of the “white trail” but turn right onto the “blue trail” heading west when you get to it.  This is a mostly woody route but when you hop on the “gold trail” loop, toward the northwest end of the park, the trees will give way to prairies and open space before you return to the Honor Plaza once more.
