There’s something special about the holiday season in Kenosha — the lights glow a little brighter, the lakefront feels a little cozier, and our small businesses shine in a way only locals understand. From festive storefronts and family traditions to community events that bring everyone together, the people behind our shops, cafés, studios, and boutiques play a huge part in what makes this time of year feel magical.

In this series of holiday interviews, we sat down with a handful of Kenosha’s small business owners to hear how they celebrate the season — from their favorite local traditions to the ways they spread joy through their work. Their stories show exactly why supporting local isn’t just a purchase… it’s being part of something bigger.

Let’s spread some holiday cheer and get to know Tina Warner, the owner of Millie Bo Peep!

This boutique in Downtown Kenosha is a one-stop shop for all things baby, toddler, and children up to size 10.

What are your favorite local holiday traditions or events in Kenosha?

Driving down Christmas Lane and attending the Tree Lighting Ceremony downtown! (This year's tree lighting was the best one yet!)

Do you have any special holiday traditions or themes for your business this year?
Are there any new holiday specials or events you’re hosting for the Kenosha community?

We're collecting (new) bedding for Sleep in Heavenly Peace in Kenosha this holiday season. We have a goal to donate 100 bedding sets for kids that don't have bedding in our town. We love partnering with nonprofits in the area to help make a difference!

We also love collabing with our small business friends any chance we can get - like collabing on events or doing giveaways!

Other events we're doing: Santa visits MBP on December 13th - we're excited to see him! We are also running a Red Envelope Promo from 12/1-12/23 (Make any purchase and get a red envelope. Each envelope has a sweet treat inside!) and a Gift Card promo from 12/15-12/19.

What role does your business play in making Kenosha a festive destination?

ALL of your shopping can get done for the kiddos in your life at Millie Bo Peep! We have tons of toys, crafts, outfits, books, and stuffed animals!

Can you share a story about how your business has positively impacted someone’s holiday or a favorite holiday memory connected to your business?

This will be our 3rd year partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace for bedding donations (if you stop into MBP, you'll see our Giving Tree to help support SHP). We are doing a big bed build through our nonprofit, Small Business Big Hearts this year on December 19th and we get to build beds for kids that don't have them and provide bedding just in time for Christmas!

What do you love most about interacting with the community during the Holidays?

I love hearing about who customers are shopping for and helping them pick out a perfect gift!

What do your customers seem to love most about your business during the Holidays?

The variety of unique items MBP has to offer, the ease of offering gift wrapping for the holiday season, and the festive holiday outfits.

Do you have a favorite childhood holiday memory? Is there a holiday tradition from your childhood you still celebrate today?

Baking cookies and peanut butter balls with my Grandma. I keep my Grandma's memory alive by making treats with my kids for the holidays and we use my Grandma's cookie cutters.

What’s your favorite holiday movie or TV special?

It has to be Elf. And on Christmas Eve watching A Christmas Story.

Ugly sweater fan or avoid them at all costs?

I'm a fan!

Eggnog, yes or no and why?

Absolutely not. The texture, the smell, the taste - it's a big nope.

Getting to know the people behind Kenosha’s small businesses reminds us why this community is so special. Each owner brings their own story, passion, and personality to what they do — and that’s a big part of what makes visiting Kenosha such a meaningful experience.

As you enjoy the holiday season, we invite you to stop in, say hello, learn their stories, and support the work they pour their hearts into. Every conversation, every visit, and every purchase helps these business owners continue doing what they love while keeping Kenosha vibrant and welcoming.

This is what makes exploring Kenosha unique: you don’t just shop here — you connect here.
