There’s something special about the holiday season in Kenosha — the lights glow a little brighter, the lakefront feels a little cozier, and our small businesses shine in a way only locals understand. From festive storefronts and family traditions to community events that bring everyone together, the people behind our shops, cafés, studios, and boutiques play a huge part in what makes this time of year feel magical.
In this series of holiday interviews, we sat down with a handful of Kenosha’s small business owners to hear how they celebrate the season — from their favorite local traditions to the ways they spread joy through their work. Their stories show exactly why supporting local isn’t just a purchase… it’s being part of something bigger.
Let’s spread some holiday cheer and get to know Emma Bruner, the owner of Fizzy Bizz, a trendy soda shop!
What are your favorite local holiday traditions or events in Kenosha?
We always love to go see the lights on Christmas Tree Lane! We also love seeing the other lights go up around town!
Do you have any special holiday traditions or themes for your business this year? Are there any new holiday specials or events you’re hosting for the Kenosha community?
Our famous holiday drinks are back! Special holiday blends are a fun way to celebrate!
We are hosting a “Sip with Santa” on December 22nd - with an appearance by the Big Guy himself!

What do you love most about interacting with the community during the holidays?
The joy and happiness people bring with them into our shop. We truly love seeing everyone’s faces, and they especially light up around the holidays.
What do your customers seem to love most about your business during the Holidays?
Our holiday drinks really lift people’s spirits. We seem to love the holiday-specific flavors and the fun, pop-culture names we come up with. We love hearing what customers think of the tastes and names.

How do you thank your customers for their support during the holiday season?
We did a fun Black Friday sale to give them a discount on all our drinks and merch. We are also bringing in Santa so that the kids can come enjoy a holiday-filled day with him.
What do you think surprises out-of-towners most about Kenosha during the holidays? How can the community support Kenosha businesses like yours this holiday season?
We think it surprises people how festive and fun Kenosha can be during the winter months, even though we get a lot of snow. There’s so much to do and see, even with not-so-ideal weather. To support small businesses like ours, please just share us with your loved ones. Take pictures and tag us on social media posts. We love seeing people share what we love!
What’s your favorite holiday treat or dessert?
We love the treats that Rose makes for our shop over at Sweet Something’s Pastries. She always makes the most delicious cookies, bars, and cupcakes to go along with all our drinks. They’re great gifts, too! We also make the most amazing pumpkin pudding at this time of year, and it doesn’t last long in our house!
What’s your favorite holiday movie or TV special?
We are suckers for the classics– Home Alone, Grinch, Elf, etc. You name it, we watch it!
Real tree or artificial tree — which do you prefer and why?
We always love a quick and easy clean up, so artificial it is.
Ugly sweater fan or avoid them at all costs?
Big fans! We have even had a drink named “Ugly Sweater” before!
Eggnog, yes or no and why?
Big fans, once again. We even have a drink that tastes like it! It’s called Noggy or Nice. Come try it!
Naughty or Nice?
It’s … complicated ;)
