Some of us have been lucky enough to travel internationally while others still have it on their wish list.  Lucky for us in Kenosha, we can be a world traveler in our own city.  One of the biggest highlights of world traveling is enjoying new cuisine and Kenosha gives us the opportunity to enjoy food from many diverse cultures all over the world. Here is a list of culinary goodness for these global destinations right here in town:

A Taste Of Mexico

El Camino Kitchen — If hopping on a plane to Mexico just isn’t in the cards right now, be sure to check out El Camino on Margarita Mondays…it’s not beach side but it’s pretty darn close! They also have Tequila Tuesdays, Whiskey Wednesdays, Beers on a Thursday, early Happy Hour on Fridays, and Bloody Marys and Micheladas on Sundays. El Camino has an amazing Queso Blanco, Made to Order Guacamole, tacos, fajitas, burritos, quesadillas, Barbacoa Enchiladas, Tacos de Alhambres, tamales, and Pollo Gordo. It’s the best SoCal Kitchen in Kenosha!

 

Iguana Wana Mexican Grill and Tequila Bar — Iguana Wana has the true taste of Mexico with great food and handcrafted cocktails. Look no further for Taco Tuesdays and SangriaFest Thursdays! You will also find world famous margaritas, a Mexican Chopped Salad, tacos, sizzling steak fajitas, chicken fajitas, flautas, burritos, shrimp fajitas, and lots of sweet desserts.

 

La Fogata Mexican Grill — Boasting premium tequila and fresh ingredients, this is the spot to go when it’s Margarita Time! Weekdays they have margarita, beer, and sangria specials as well as happy hour options for appetizers and taco plates. Guacamole is a fan favorite here as well as their quesadillas. Try their chicken flautas, chicken tortilla soup, burritos, tacos, barbacoa enchiladas, and salads.

A Taste Of Germany

(Fun Fact: Wolfenbuttel, Germany has been Kenosha’s sister city since 1970!)

House of Gerhard — For over 50 years House of Gerhard has been serving up authentic German cuisine. Take a culinary trip to Germany and savor Beef Rouladen, Schnitzel, Beef Stroganoff, Goulash, and their Famous Prime Rib of Beef. They even offer a Reuben on the menu and a delicious Bouillabaisse as well as a fine selection of German beer. Guten Appetit!

Union Park Tavern — Every Thursday at the Union Park Tavern, get transported direct to Germany with their German plate specials. The selections change weekly so the best place to see what’s cooking is on their Facebook page. They’ve been known to have Jagerschnitzel, Kassler Rippchen, red cabbage, potato pancakes, brats, knackwurst, kraut and rye bread.

A Taste Of Italy

(Fun Fact: Cosenza, Italy has been Kenosha’s sister city since 1979!)

Casa Capri — Since 1954, Casa Capri has been cranking out Italian specialties like lasagna, bombers, and pizza. They have an extensive menu that is sure to please every palate and leave you feeling pieno (full)! You’ll find tons of pasta selections like cheese-stuffed tortelloni, gnocchi, ravioli, stuffed shells, rigatoni, spaghetti, linguini, fettuccine alfredo, and spaghettini.

Italian American Supper Club — With its beginnings tracing all the way back to 1923, the Italian American Supper Club is full of Kenosha history and Italian flavor. With its classic décor and charm, you’ll feel like you are stepping back in time while enjoying their excellent pasta like spaghetti, ravioli, mostaccioli, gnocchi, fettuccini alfredo and linguini. Try their buono bombers with meatballs or sausage, chicken cacciatore, chicken parmesan, steaks, chops, and pizza. Nothing like enjoying classic Italian food in such a historical setting. Delizioso!

Tenuta’s Delicatessen and Liquors — Since1950, Tenuta’s has been providing the best in grocery, liquor, and food, of course! You can order homemade Italian sausage, roast beef, Muffo-lotta sandwiches, meatball bombers, and so much more. Visit the deli and grocery for everything you need for an Italian meal at home — how fun to make a meal together as a family! They even feature take and heat dinner specials like pan pizza, mushroom risotto, zucchini spaghetti, sacchetti, gnocchi, fettuccini alfredo, polenta, and ravioli. Check their Facebook page for up to date information on their daily offerings. Squisito!

Tuscany Bistro Bar & Grill — The menu at Tuscany Bistro features delicious Italian cuisine and fresh seafood dishes, including the Linguine Pescatore which has clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, and grouper. Delicious gourmet pizzas are served with a homemade tomato sauce as their base. Ask about their gluten-free pizza, and cauliflower crust, too.

Villa D’ Carlo — Since 1957 Villa D’ Carlo has been spinning pizzas and cooking up other Italian favorites like bombers, pasta, and veal marsala. Carl’s Famous Pizza is still being spun here too, topped with vegetables, meats, and other specialties like anchovies, fresh garlic, giardiniera, pineapple, and jalapeño peppers. They have the classics too, like gnocchi, lasagna, ravioli, spaghetti, chicken parmesan, fettuccini alfredo, veal with spaghetti, and steaks and chops!

A Taste Of Asia

Ono — Sushi and Asian Pacific fare are offered at this establishment in Downtown Kenosha. Special rolls include Baked in Kenosha, Dragon, Rainbow, Crabby Dragon, and Kani Rainbow. If you like things on the spicy side, try the Hamachi Cilantro & Jalapeno, Wisco Crunch, Walu Cilantro and Jalapeno, Salmon Crunch, or Smoke Crunch rolls. The Ono Crunch is a spicy one featuring Shrimp tempura, spicy mayo, tempura crunch, and eel sauce. The menu includes many vegetarian and vegan options.
