The History

In late 2011, The Great Lakes Mitten Campaign took place throughout Wisconsin. This was in light of all the buzz surrounding the image of a Wisconsin-shaped mitten on TravelWisconsin.com and its social media sites. Thus, Travel Wisconsin (the Wisconsin Department of Tourism) and Pure Michigan joined forces to collect mittens for charity. Visit Kenosha collected items for this campaign.

In the years that followed, Travel Wisconsin held the Big Bundle Up annual charity drive. Visit Kenosha’s two Visitor Information Centers served as collection sites for this.

Starting in 2022, Travel Wisconsin began focusing its attention on another holiday philanthropy effort and Visit Kenosha has continued with the winter-wear collection drive.

Through January 2024, Visit Kenosha has collected approximately 13,830 items since the original charity drive started. Each year, all the warm clothing items have stayed in the community to be distributed.
