For most of my adult life, I’ve had an insatiable curiosity in living a well-lived life. A life that I can be proud of as my legacy. I’ve learned that living a well-lived life is so much more than an equation . . .you know the kind . . . (Only eat this - do NOT eat that) + (do this exercise - don’t do this one) = PERFECT LIFE NOW!!! But you and I aren’t formulas. We all have unique bodies and brains, we have past stories and live our present ones. None of this is cookie-cutter. And we are even less formatted or regimented when traveling!
This is one of the many things I have always loved about the YMCA (ours in Kenosha in particular). Their staff and vision have always been about the whole person and family. They understand that building a whole person means supporting that person in more than strengthening their body, but in strengthening their relationships, their families, and their communities as well. Or, in some cases, helping to strengthen a vacation!
Years ago, when I first began my fitness journey, the Kenosha YMCA was where I started. At the time, I was a stay-at-home mom and homeschooled my three kids. Something inside me knew, even then, that for me to show up as my best self for my family, I needed to show up for myself first. In SO many ways, I didn’t know how to do this (I’m still learning), but the YMCA was instrumental in me beginning the process. One of the very tangible ways they did this was by offering safe care for my kids while I worked out. IFYKYK. This was a game-changer.
The YMCA also supports a well-lived life by offering many other things that help motivate us to get out of the house and take care of ourselves. Especially as we transition into Wisconsin's colder months, the YMCA offers a fantastic way to enjoy winter (albeit inside) with its pools, hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms. Make it a Family Day with YMCA’s open swim times and zero-depth pool followed up with pizza from some of Kenosha’s finest or make it a Personal Retreat Day with one of the group classes followed by rejuvenating your body in the sauna and maybe even a massage!
So whether you live in the Kenosha Area or are visiting, the Y can be a place for fun and strengthening. Day passes are available, or if you belong to a YMCA somewhere else, enjoy free access with the Y-Away program! No matter how you choose to let the YMCA support you, I wish you the absolute best of luck.
Cheering you on in all of your life’s adventures!
