Located at Simmons Island Beach, 50th St. and Lake Michigan, the lighthouse was built in 1906 and stands 50 feet tall. It is privately owned, but still serves as the active lighthouse for the Kenosha harbor.

The lighthouse is a community destination for artists and art enthusiasts that offers opportunities to showcase works, provide working space and support. An Artist in Residence program, as well as concerts and other special events take place here.

Local Kenosha artist John Burhani purchased the lighthouse and used it as his art studio for a time, now his wife Heather McGee owns the lighthouse. In honor of her late husband's memory, McGee has enlisted the help of other local artists to turn the lighthouse into a work of art. During the summer of 2016, an artist in residence program first hosted artists at the lighthouse to paint portions of the structure to create a mural of multiple works around the bottom 5 feet circumference.

Residents and visitors are welcome to approach the lighthouse to take photos with the iconic structure and the newly created art.

This lighthouse is sometimes referred to as Pierhead Lighthouse.
