Wine pairings in Kenosha WI

Like most people, I love to pair good food with good wine. For me, there’s nothing better than a glass of wine and a delicious meal at the end of a busy week. So obviously some of my favorite things about Kenosha are the delicious food and drink options we have! There’s something special about this area because you just don’t get this kind of variety everywhere you go. Whether you’re looking for a casual atmosphere or a fine dining experience, when it comes to pairing wine with a meal (or no meal), you have plenty of options to choose from.

Pair some wine with a meal...

If you’re looking to pair wine with a delicious dining experience, there are more than a few places to add to your list. Wine Knot Bar & Bistro has an extensive wine menu (with more than 50 options!) to accompany its delicious dinner menu. They offer 3, 6 and 9 oz pours in all wines, so you’re free to sample several flavors without doing a full glass. I like to order a small flight (3 oz) of merlots and red blends, and pair those flavors with their duck stroganoff or another savory dish. My husband’s favorite wine is the Barbera, which is a dry, red Italian wine that’s made from the third most-planted red grape variety in Italy. It’s known for its deep color, full body, low tannins and high levels of acid.

The Red Oak Restaurant also offers a great selection of wine and dinner menu options, perfect for pairing. Specializing in locally sourced ingredients from Wisconsin farms, dairies and orchards, the menu features homemade dishes made from scratch that showcase the richness of our state. The wine menu offers a huge variety of reds and whites from California, Washington and of course, Wisconsin, to name a few. They also have a good selection of international imports from France, Italy and Argentina. My favorite value glass is the Alma Mora Red Blend from Argentina, and for bottle-only service, the semi-sweet Franciscan Magnificat Red from California is a must-try. It layers aromas of black cherry, cassis and plum, with hints of vanilla and spice. It’s full and round with a great balance.

Keep it Casual...

If you’re looking for sheer variety, The Buzz Café has you covered. With 200 wines by the bottle, you’ll never run out of tasting options. The café features a literal wall of bottles to select from, offering every red and white variety you can imagine. There’s a full lunch and dinner menu as well, so you can share a light snack and stick to sampling flavors, or enjoy a full lunch/dinner. The Buzz also offers a “Wine of the Month” club at three different tiers, The Novice, The Upgrade and The Connoisseur. Sister restaurant Sazzy B is also a great spot for wine, with more than 45 varieties to choose from. However the massive selection at The Buzz cannot be easily topped. Each location offers different ambiance and food options.

No Dinner? No Problem!

If you’re looking for a local spot to sample wine and play board games with friends, the Iron Depot Winery is wonderful place to hang out. They offer homemade house wines and several imported varieties from all over the world. My personal favorite is their delicious wine slushy. Flavors include peach, mango, blue raspberry and strawberry coconut. It’s the perfect treat for a warm spring evening! The Iron Depot Winery offers wine pours by the glass, bottle and flights. They also offer a great charcuterie board to share with friends, as well as other snacks like pretzels and pizza.

Other stops for wine lovers include Twisted Cuisine on Wednesday nights when you can enjoy all wine at half price, Tenuta’s Delicatessen & Liquors for their RED TAG sales when wines are offered at a deep discount, and Tuscany Bistro where they are prepared to tell you exactly what wine will go with your Italian cuisine. Every day can be “Wino Wednesday” in Kenosha. Would you like some cheese to go with that wine - this is Wisconsin, afterall! So raise your glass – whether it is red or white – to great pairings. We'll really give you something to wine about!
