The talk around Kenosha the last few weeks has been all about hometown girl Betsy Ade. On March 5, during “The Voice” blind auditions, Betsy secured a spot on Team John Legend by singing "Hunger” by Florence and the Machine. “The Voice” is a vocal competition show televised on NBC. Betsy is well known in Kenosha – whether by fans at her concerts or students in the classes she substitute teaches.

Betsy’s official bio by NBC Entertainment Publicity reads: “Betsy’s mom passed away when she was only 9 and she stepped up to provide the strength her family needed. It wasn’t until college that Betsy felt free enough to explore her interests. She came out to her family and started singing in her brother’s band, which toured nationwide. She later fell in love and started a family, but became a single mom when things with her girlfriend did not work out. Betsy took a break from music to raise her son, but eventually found both love and music once again. Betsy currently gigs and tours with her band, Well-Known Strangers.”

Betsy was kind enough to take time out of her busy life and answer a few questions for us about her hometown:

Favorite Event:

Taste of Wisconsin

Favorite Music Venue:

There are so many...Fusion, 58 Below, and Brat Stop

Favorite Breakfast Diner:

Franks and The Coffee Pot

Favorite Attraction:

We love all of the music festivals during the summertime along with the farmer’s market.

Favorite Scenic Spot:

Anywhere along the lakefront. My favorite drive is along Sheridan Road going north right before you hit Carthage College.

Places You’ve Played in Kenosha:

Fusion, Sazzy Bs, Taste of Wisconsin, Authentique, Brat Stop, Coins, TG’s, 58 Below

Favorite Places To Go With Your Family:

-Various Parks/Swim on the beaches along the lakefront

-Kenosha Public Museum and the Civil War Museum

-Festivals and community events held in the summertime

-4th of July Parade (Kenosha Civic Veterans Parade)

Anything else you want to share about your hometown:

This is a place where people take care of each other. A city that supports local business, people in need, and tries really hard to bring the community together. It is also littered with talented musicians. Music lovers come out to support live local music every night of the week! I am proud to be a Kenosha resident!

As you can imagine, Betsy’s hometown will be cheering her on through the Battle Rounds, Knockouts, Playoffs, and the Live Performance Shows – in the hopes that she will be named the winner of a recording contract! Way to go, Betsy!
