After a busy day at work or work week, we all should and need to take time to unwind and relax.  What better way to do this than by spending time with your significant other? Maybe that means a night out, or maybe it means a weekend getaway. Some of you may already have a special spot in the Kenosha Area that is your go-to for a date night.  Having recently moved back to Kenosha, I am rediscovering the wide variety of cool and unconventional date night spots to grab a drink and a meal - and even enjoy games or entertainment. The best part is date night doesn't have to mean a fancy meal or spending a lot of money - it's just about having a fun night together.

My partner and I recently decided to mix up our usual date nights and looked through the Kenosha Area Convention & Visitors Bureau’s new 2019 Visitors Guide to find some new spots for dinner and drinks.  We came across some trendy bars/restaurants in the heart of Kenosha that have great social activities, drinks, and food to make our date nights even more fun. Check them out:

The Garage

Located about five miles east of I-94 and just a mile and a half from the lakefront, this bar and restaurant is not your conventional Kenosha bar eatery.  The Garage has a little bit of something for everyone - and any couple looking to kick back and enjoy a low-key date night. The interior reminiscent of an uncle’s old-school automotive garage - with a slight modern twist.  Which makes sense, since it located across the street from the former Chrysler engine plant site – the bar was an employee hot-spot before it changed hands and became The Garage.

The Garage Sports and Burger Bar has killer weekly specials, including Miller Monday ($1.50 Miller & Coors Products), Ten Dollar Tuesday any of their signature burgers are $10 (including fries!). There is also Tuesday Service Industry Night (all top shelf liquor is 50% off), Wine Wednesday offers 50% off glasses of wine, and of course Thursday brings a 50% discount on select craft beer to start the weekend early.  If you think the drink specials are great, don’t forget to check out their weekly Wednesday Bingo Night. You can play for FREE and will have the chance to win free beer, too! The bingo games begin each Wednesday at 7pm.

The menu has all sorts of delicious food options. I personally enjoy the Garage’s Collector Plate for an appetizer – it is a mix of some of their best apps. The El Camino stuffed burger with fries is my go to dinner.  There are a wide variety of burgers, beers, mixed drinks, and appetizers for you and your partner to choose from – or even share. Note: The Garage does not accept credit or debit cards, it is a cash only establishment.

Mike’s Sportsbook & Meat Bar

Located in the heart of Downtown Kenosha, Mike’s Sportsbook & Meat Bar is a great spot to kick back and watch your favorite football (Go Pack Go!), baseball (#Brewcrew), or other sports team with your significant other.  The restaurant is located on the second floor above Mike’s Chicken & Donuts (which is also a fun date night spot, and even offers a family-friendly Donut Bingo game every Monday at 6pm). “Sportsbook”, as it is referred to for short, offers great views of Downtown Kenosha from the dining room and their rooftop deck.

Mike’s Sportsbook & Meat Bar offers weekly cocktail specials, brunch on Sundays, and has a great variety of dishes – from pasta to steaks.  Sunday evening is half price steak night – making it a great chance to turn Sunday Dinner into date night! A personal tip: If you enjoy a good meatball bomber sandwich, try it here! My favorite appetizer is the crab cakes; they are delicious.  Mike’s homemade curly fries are a good addition to any dinner, burger or sandwich, too. And don’t forget to watch for their entertainment schedules to post for added fun.

Some other great venues for fun dates include Johnny’Z Pour House for Thursday night Trivia at 7 pm, Captain Mike’s for Beer Bingo on Tuesdays at 8:30 pm, and Sazzy B for Cocktail Piano on Wednesday nights. If you aren’t in the mood for dinner, check out PUBLIC Craft Brewing Co. for their “Public Education” nights or Comedy Open Mic series.

There is so much that a couple can do in the Kenosha Area, just think outside the box! Mike’s Sportsbook & Meat Bar and The Garage are just two of my new favorite date night spots.  For more details about these venues be sure to follow them on social media to get the latest updates to their menus and activities each week. You can also explore more dining options in the Kenosha Area on our website. Whether it is watching a football game or winning a game of bingo, you and your significant other will have a great night out in Kenosha!
