Many people think that just because it is cold outside that there aren’t many things you can do outside of the house. Here in the Kenosha Area, that couldn’t be further from the truth. With the right winter gear, you can enjoy many outdoor activities without breaking the bank. For less than $40 per day, you can take your family on a winter adventure they will never forget.

Snow! Snow! Looking for places to sled? Look no further than Petrifying Springs Park. Kenosha County’s oldest park is home to awesome hills to sled down and beatiful trails for cross-country skiing! Just bring your sled or skis, and an appetite for fun and laughter, because admission to this park is FREE!

Getting a bit chilly? Head east to Downtown Kenosha for a warm up! A hot beverage, like the Spiced Chai Tea latte (my recommendation, ringing in at under $4 for a small) or a hot cocoa topped with whipped cream (under $3 for a small) at Harborside Common Grounds are the perfect follow up to playing in the snow. Beautiful views of the Kenosha Harbor are FREE for you to enjoy while you sip on your hot drinks.

If you would like to see more of the Lake Michigan shoreline while staying toasty warm, then grab your cup to-go and hop on board one of the timeless Streetcars for a scenic 2-mile loop around Downtown. Rides are $1 for adults and 50-cents for kids. Along the streetcar line, there are three museums with fantastic exhibits and hands-on fun for the whole family. The Dinosaur Discovery Museum and the Kenosha Public Museum are favorites of mine. The Kenosha History Center is just across the harbor, a short car ride away. This museum is also Free.

After warming up, you may be ready for another outdoor adventure. While you’re still in the Downtown area, check out Veterans Memorial Park. Here you will find a new, outdoor ice skating rink. Bring your own skates, as rentals are not yet available, and twirl around the frozen surface with the harbor in the background.

After a jam-packed day, you will definitely have an appetite for something scrumptious! Unwind and relax with a slice of pizza at Villa D’Carlo. This family owned and operated restaurant is a great place to end your day. With large cheese pizzas starting at under $15, you’ll find that it fits nicely into the budget!

Adding up the costs of the adventure above, a family of four could enjoy this exact day for about $37. The Winter season doesn’t mean the fun stops! There is so much to do throughout the year – you just have to know where to look. So start planning your visit,  or hop in the car for a spontaneous weekend away – we promise to keep you entertained without breaking your New Year budgeting goals! Hope to see you during 2018!
