Leaving the corporate management world behind – as well as the craft show circuit – Cheryl Farrand opened her first business in April 2016. In October 2017 she would move it to a larger location in Downtown Kenosha – 5925 Sixth Avenue A. “I’m all over the map,” Cheryl says when it comes to her crafting. Two prominent themes are decorating Christmas trees and creating silk floral arrangements. Thus, the shop’s name: The Pine Blossom.

While Cheryl’s career was in Corporate America, her hobby took her to craft shows and farmer markets in the five years leading up to opening her shop. She also consigned at a nearby vintage/antique shop. She then decided to open her own business. While not very familiar with Downtown Kenosha, she chose the district for The Pine Blossom to put down roots. She has been very happy with her choice.

Now when Cheryl goes to craft shows and markets, she’s looking for consigners. Most of the consigners approach her first though. More than 20 people have goods for sale at The Pine Blossom – not counting Cheryl and her husband, who is an artist. She also will still attend craft shows and other events as a vendor from time to time, as does her husband.

The shop specializes in repurposed furniture, clothing, jewelry, and home décor. Simply put, it’s a boutique shop filled with treasures for every taste. Signs, aprons, pillows, glass flowers, greeting cards, unique and unusual items (like robot lamps), and many more handmade items are offered. There’s also some retail clothing available. A vintage room in the back is filled with items from glyndy Jr’s, the shop that previously occupied the building. At Christmas, Cheryl’s fully decorated Christmas trees are available to purchase. Throughout the year, Cheryl takes orders to make silk floral arrangements for all occasions including showers, weddings, and birthdays.

The shop’s offerings change as the seasons change. Fall and Christmas are big for Cheryl, with Christmas rolling out in October. Cheryl loves decorating and notes how daunting the task can be to decorate the shop’s four window displays. Her favorite part of owning the store though is the people that come in; the conversations that take place. She has regular customers that have become her friends. She also enjoys helping her customers “find that special gift.”

The Pine Blossom hosts special events, including an annual Christmas open house, a Mother’s Day gift basket raffle, and more. The shop partners with other similar businesses to offer the Kenosha Vintage Shop Crawl once a month, too. This ticketed event has shoppers taking a bus to specialty shops to shop after hours, while enjoying food and beverages. The Pine Blossom also offers essential oils, meditation, and painting classes.

Whether you’re craving a craft show, vintage, or Christmas in October, The Pine Blossom is the place to go to!
