Pinot's Palette is a paint studio that offers guided painting classes - for a night out, team building, or family fun.  All materials and supplies are provided - along with a full-service bar - and no art experience is necessary. There are more than 150 locations in the U.S. and another dozen in Canada. The franchise in Kenosha County is owned by Mike and Wendy Schoenke and opened on December 14, 2017. Conveniently located just two miles east of I-94 off of Highway 50 (at 9020 76th Street, Suite E2), its neighbors include Seebecks, a locally owned gift gallery, and Iguana Wana Mexican Grill & Tequila Bar.

Guests wishing to paint can register online at any time and take their pieces home with them the same day - making it a great option for local residents and visitors alike. To learn more about this artsy activity, the Kenosha Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (KACVB) interviewed Mike and Wendy. Here’s an edited transcript of the interview:

KACVB: Why did you want to be a part of Pinot’s Palette?

Mike & Wendy @ Pinot's Palette: Art has been a passion my (Mike) whole life and I've always wanted to make my own mark on this world and now we can make many marks with the help of all of our artists and wonderful guests at Pinot's Palette.

KACVB: Are you painters yourselves?

Mike & Wendy @ Pinot's Palette: Yes, Mike is and Wendy will dabble in the arts.

KACVB: Have you owned other businesses?

Mike & Wendy @ Pinot's Palette: Yes, we've owned a few other businesses with the main one being a graphics and design company, Ab-Salute Graphics.

KACVB: What will attendees of a class at Pinot’s Palette experience?

Mike & Wendy @ Pinot's Palette: Since most of our guests come in not having painted for a long time or ever even, they experience a major release of bound up stresses and anxieties. We combine a great "vibe" in our atmosphere with excellent people and awesome service. We teach new skills and find hidden talents deep inside so many people. It is so satisfying that even the toughest personalities can be tamed.

KACVB: No art experience necessary by the attendees?

Mike & Wendy @ Pinot's Palette: Absolutely not... We teach the experience step by step and no one is ever left behind.

KACVB: How long is one class?

Mike & Wendy @ Pinot's Palette: Generally, our classes last anywhere from two to three hours.

KACVB: Each class has different themes, right?

Mike & Wendy @ Pinot's Palette: Correct, every class has a different themed painting and everyone works to create the same painting unless they choose to free-style where they can go off to their own little happy place. Our goal is to make each and every guest as happy, surprised and satisfied as they can be in two or three hours.

KACVB: Do the attendees take the art with them at the end of one class?

Mike & Wendy @ Pinot's Palette: Every painting done in our studio goes home after every class!

KACVB: Do you find a lot of repeat customers, who come back for a specific theme or to improve their skills?

Mike & Wendy @ Pinot's Palette: We find an amazing amount of return guests come back not only for a new painting but also for the experience which is really our goal. In only one year’s time we have had guests come back easily over 20 times. That must mean we're doing something really right!!!

KACVB: Is there a minimum age for painters?

Mike & Wendy @ Pinot's Palette: Children from ages 3 to 16 have painted in our "Little Brushes" classes and teenagers are welcome to join their parents at most all of our adult classes. We do serve wine and alcohol at our adult sessions, so all children must be accompanied by their parent or responsible adult. No one can be served alcohol unless they are 21 years or older, and have proof of age.

KACVB: Is there a different price for kids?

Mike & Wendy @ Pinot's Palette: Kids pricing is greatly reduced so that we can ensure that our efforts are focused on young adults and children carrying on our love of arts and making it accessible to all.

KACVB: Does the price vary by class/theme?

Mike & Wendy @ Pinot's Palette: There are many variables to our pricing such as time and length of classes, types and sizes of canvases and other media such as board palettes, wine bottles, glasses and so on. We are very reasonable with our pricing but ask that guests please remember we are creating an experience. The product that you leave with is a nice reward to go with your time and new acquaintances.

KACVB: Private parties are also an option when painting at Pinot’s Palette. To hold one at this location, click here and follow the prompts. How do private parties work?

Mike & Wendy @ Pinot's Palette: Follow the prompts to request your time and date and we'll respond to you within 24 hours to go over all your details and needs. We can then proceed and set up your party. Please note that we do require a ten-person minimum and we do give a price reduction for any party of 15 or more. There is NO CHARGE for the party itself, it is priced per person and you are welcome to bring in any munchies, food or even catering services. We are NOT a BYOB studio and our laws and liquor licenses require that we sell and provide all refreshments that are consumed at our facility. We do host parties of all types including: Birthdays for Adults and Kids, Anniversaries, Corporate Getaways and Team Building, Bachelorette, Bachelor, Wedding Parties and Showers, Girls and Boys Scout groups, Baby Showers, Special Events and Fundraisers, Family Holidays, Girls Night Out, or just No Reason At All Get Togethers. Please call us if you would just like to rent our studio space and create your own event.

Also of note: gift certificates are valid at all locations and the Pinot Perks rewards program is offered; members earn exclusive rewards, including free wine and painting classes.

So gather your friends, neighbors, relatives, or co-workers, and plan a fun and creative night out at Pinot’s Palette!
