Toys and Collectibles Experience

Visit Kenosha: What inspired you to open Toys and Collectibles Experience, and when did it start?
Jarame: For about five years, I’ve been thinking about opening a store. Collecting has always been a hobby I enjoy, and I noticed there aren’t many stores that are both fair and friendly. That’s exactly what I strive to create – a place where everyone feels welcome.

Visit Kenosha: Can you share the story behind the name and concept of your store?
Jarame: I wanted a name that was clearly tied to collectibles. It had to be straightforward so people would instantly know what the store is about.

Toys and Collectibles Experience

Visit Kenosha: What is your personal connection to toys and collectibles?
Jarame: It all started when I was a kid, thanks to Star Wars. That connection grew into a love for sci-fi movies and shows over the years.

Visit Kenosha: Was there a favorite toy or collectible from your childhood that influenced you?
Jarame: Definitely Star Wars and G.I. Joe. Those were my main inspirations growing up.

Visit Kenosha: Do you remember a specific moment when you realized you wanted to turn your love for collecting into a business?
Jarame: It was when I started doing collectible shows. Seeing the excitement on kids' faces when they found a toy they really wanted—that was such an amazing feeling. That’s when I knew I wanted to make this a business.

Toys and Collectibles Experience

Visit Kenosha: What types of toys and collectibles do you specialize in, and how do you curate your inventory?

Jarame: I carry a mix of Star Wars items, comics, G.I. Joe, and He-Man. A lot of what I stock comes from customer suggestions. If it’s something I can get, I’ll do my best to make it happen.

Visit Kenosha: How do you decide which vintage or modern items to carry in your store?
Jarame: I have both vintage and modern items in my personal collection, so I draw from that. I try to keep things cool but not overwhelming.

Visit Kenosha: Are there any rare or unique pieces in your collection that you’re particularly proud of?
Jarame: I’ve got a good mix of vintage and modern items, but nothing I’d consider “holy grail” level.

Toys and Collectibles Experience

Visit Kenosha: Have you ever come across a “holy grail” item?
Jarame: I’ve come across a lot of cool items, but I wouldn’t say I’ve found anything that’s a true grail.

Visit Kenosha: How has the Kenosha community responded to your store?
Jarame: I’ve had a lot of people stop in to check it out, and the response has been great so far. I’m hoping it continues to grow.

Visit Kenosha: Do you host any events, trade shows, or special gatherings for collectors and enthusiasts?

Jarame: Yes! My friend Jeff and I co-hosted and founded the K-Town Toy and Collectible Show at the Moose Lodge in Kenosha. We always have great vendors at the shows, and it’s a lot of fun.

Toys and Collectibles Experience

Visit Kenosha: What are some challenges you’ve faced as a business owner in the collectibles industry?
Jarame: The biggest challenge is keeping up with demand for new items as they come out.

Visit Kenosha: How do you stay updated on trends and values in the toy and collectibles market?
Jarame: I’m part of about 50 Facebook groups and keep an eye on all the big comic cons. Trends usually follow the latest movies and shows, and Star Wars is always a strong favorite.

Visit Kenosha: Have you noticed any specific items or brands becoming more popular among collectors recently?

Jarame: Definitely the Black Series and Vintage Collection. They’re focusing on new items tied to great shows, and people love that.

Visit Kenosha: Can you share a story of a special or unexpected success since opening the store?
Jarame: There’s been a lot of little successes, like meeting new guests and talking about their childhoods and collections. That’s been the most rewarding part so far.

Visit Kenosha: Are there any exciting plans or new initiatives for the store in the near future?
Jarame: Right now, my main focus is getting all the shelving done and expanding into new product lines.

Toys and Collectibles Experience

Visit Kenosha: Do you offer online sales?
Jarame: Not officially, but I do post pictures of new items on Facebook. If someone sees something they like, they can message me, and I’ll set it aside or ship it to them.

Visit Kenosha: What can you tell us about your podcast, Chasing Plastic?
Jarame: Chasing Plastic is a podcast with me, Jeff, Karl, and Patrick. We’re all collectors with different interests, and we’ve been doing shows for years. Jeff came up with the idea, and it’s been a great way to share our passion.

Visit Kenosha: What advice would you give to aspiring collectors or small business owners looking to start something similar?
Jarame: Location is key, and you need to plan out everything you want to do.

Visit Kenosha: If you could own any collectible in the world, what would it be and why?
Jarame: A rocket-firing Boba Fett would be amazing. It’s such an iconic piece.

With his dedication to the community and his love for all things collectible, Jarame Baldwin has created more than just a store – it’s a celebration of the joy and wonder that toys and collectibles bring to our lives.
