Sometimes, what you need most in Kenosha isn’t just a pick-me-up—it’s your Daily Dose of flavor, comfort, and community. Whether it’s the bold, legendary Awesome Beef Sandwich, the soul-warming Biscuits & Gravy that’s like a hug on a plate, or the cleverly sweet-savory French Toast Panini that doubles as breakfast and dessert—The Daily Dose Café serves up more than just meals. It delivers a daily prescription of food that feeds the heart in every bite.
Jennifer Capponi’s Kenosha Café Story
Owner of The Daily Dose Café

For owner Jennifer Capponi, what started as a vision to bring something special to Kenosha has become a true labor of love. “I’ve always wanted to have a restaurant of my own, since I was very young,” she says. Growing up, Jennifer and her family canned, preserved, and grew much of their own food, planting the seeds of a lifelong love for cooking and hospitality.

At just 14, Jennifer entered the restaurant industry, working on the Super Bar at Wendy’s and bussing tables at the Elk’s Club (now The Stella Hotel & Ballroom). “I was hooked from the first job,” she recalls. “I loved serving people and seeing them enjoy a beautiful meal.” Sharon Bilski, a local restaurant owner, became her mentor, showing her that hospitality could be both a career and a calling.

A 1989 graduate of Reuther High School, Jennifer’s path wasn’t immediately into food. She spent 13 years in a corporate mail-order company in Illinois, rising from the mailroom to roles in buying, catalog planning, and marketing. “That company gave me wings to fly,” she says. “It helped me learn negotiation, communication, and leadership—all skills I would need as a business owner.”
But the dream never faded. “Every spring for about 15 years, I would drive around town looking for the perfect place,” Jennifer says. That dream finally intersected with opportunity when she became a stay-at-home mom. Driving her daughters to preschool, she passed a little building at 60th and 40th Avenue with a “For Sale” sign. One spring day, she knew it was time. “The feeling of desire, the reminder of a dream, nudged me to take the leap,” she recalls.

When The Daily Dose Café opened in 2007, the vision was simple: a quaint coffee shop with a little food. But customers quickly shaped something bigger. “We listened to what people were looking for, and we delivered,” Jennifer says. “I’m fussy when it comes to coffee and food. There are no exceptions—we serve the best coffee and create a menu focused on quality and ingredients.”

The name Daily Dose captures this mission perfectly. “Coffee is something I personally need a daily dose of—and food too,” she laughs. “It just made sense.”
Opening the café came with challenges. Jennifer admits she spent nearly every penny upgrading the building, buying equipment, and stocking inventory. “I didn’t sleep for three days on opening week. I cried myself to sleep for the first two weeks because I was so afraid I couldn’t run this business and take care of my young children and husband.” But the neighborhood and early customers rallied around her. “Every person that came in stayed. The Forest Park neighborhood supported us. My family and friends supported us.”

That care for people is at the heart of Daily Dose’s success. “We are not just a place that serves coffee and great food,” Jennifer explains. “Making people feel welcome and loving on them is just as important as the product. I say ‘we’ a lot because I’ve not done this alone. My family has been here from day one, and I’ve been blessed with amazing staff who’ve helped me run the place.”
Daily Dose’s menu reflects that same care. Jennifer wanted traditional flavors delivered with better ingredients and minimal processing. Recipes for dressings, sauces, and soups are made from scratch, and staff creativity has influenced many additions over the years.
Some dishes have become legendary. The Awesome Beef Sandwich started as a breakfast special experiment and quickly became a staff favorite. Customers helped name it through a contest—most chose just one word: “Awesome.”
Other must-tries include the French Toast Panini, Breakfast Tacos, Avocado Toast, and the Bisca-licious Plate of biscuits and gravy piled on potatoes with eggs.

Coffee is equally important. Jennifer sampled multiple Wisconsin roasters and chose Colectivo Coffee for its blends and organic options. “The better the quality of product, the better you can serve others,” she says.
The café’s atmosphere also makes it special. “This isn’t just about food and money—it’s about connection,” Jennifer explains. Random singalongs, laughter, and friendly conversations are part of the experience. Staff members are treated like family, and diverse backgrounds help everyone learn from each other and stay creative.

Daily Dose has become more than a café—it’s a place where the community gathers. Jennifer recommends pairing a visit with downtown attractions like the Kenosha HarborMarket, bonfires on the beach, Peanut Butter & Jam concerts, or Tuesdays at the Shell. Partnering with Visit Kenosha has helped share their story even further.
Even after nearly two decades, Jennifer remains committed to staying steady rather than expanding. A relocation plan in 2022 fell through due to high costs and labor shortages, but she’s embraced simplicity and family time as a priority.

A Daily Dose of Kenosha Love
After nearly 20 years, Daily Dose isn’t just a spot for breakfast or lunch—it’s a staple of the Kenosha restaurant scene. Jennifer and her team have poured love into every plate, every cup of coffee, and every smile served across the counter. For so many of us, it’s not just food, it’s comfort—it’s home.
Places like Daily Dose, and owners like Jennifer, are exactly why you should visit Kenosha. Speaking on behalf of not just the Visit Kenosha team but for the whole Kenosha community, we’re grateful for everything she’s built here. Daily Dose has been serving up more than meals—it’s been serving joy to the Kenosha Area.
