The hardest part of 2020 is a still ahead of us here at Elsie Mae’s.  However, we have found great comfort in our community and pie family that has reaffirmed that we are exactly where we need to be.  We are so thankful for the partnerships, collaborations, and memories we’ve built.  We are looking forward to adding new opportunities, relationships, and memories! We invite you to share in our excitement of the unknown and in the limitless possibilities as we start the next chapter of Elsie Mae’s. Stay close to our social media outlets & our newsletter for information on where to get our products & for the latest updates as our story unfolds.

More about Elsie Mae's:

Kelly Deem’s grandma always had a pie on the table – and as Kelly was growing up, she was always helping her grandma with the gardening and canning. Today, Kelly is still canning – and baking pies. She’s using family recipes, local ingredients, and traditional style baking at the shop she named after her “granny”: Elsie Mae’s Canning & Pies. Kelly hasn't changed much in what she does in the kitchen; just the quantity! Formerly a fishery scientist, Kelly is now a shopkeeper who is sharing her family traditions, her family recipes, and a piece of herself with her customers. Visit the shop at any given time, and you can see Kelly and her staff at work making a variety of seasonal pies and jams. Everything is done on site, with the kitchen workspace visible for all to see.

Kelly picks various local foods, mixes them together in amazing combinations, and flavorful jams and pies are the result. Growing up in Ohio, canning was her family's lifestyle; Kelly says that's what everyone was doing. During the cold months of January, she and her grandma would decide what they wanted to eat and would plan out the year's garden. When Kelly moved here, since it was such a big part of her life, she kept canning. She recalls being Berryville Farm's first customer. She thinks she picked 100 lbs of strawberries – and her husband James asked what she was going to do with them. She made 46 pints of strawberry jam. She would start taking the jams to farmers markets, including at Columbus Park and Kenosha HarborMarket. “It kind of just grew from there. Because I just kept canning and canning for our family of … two.” Eventually she would open Elsie Mae’s.
