As the self-proclaimed Office Foodie, and the Blog Manager, I am pleased to announce that the month of February will be henceforth known as FOODIE FEBRUARY on the Visit Kenosha blog. In fact, you may notice an increased focus of food across our website this month. Why? Because we are pretty jazzed for Downtown Kenosha Restaurant Week happening later in the month, but we also consider the entire Kenosha Area to be a great destination for foodies! Cliché as it sounds; we truly have something for every taste.

Part of any good travel experience is enjoying local cuisine. Lucky for visitors to the Kenosha Area, there are plenty of good eats to enjoy while here. From Breakfast and Burgers to Sushi and Supper Clubs, the Kenosha Area has an incredible number of locally owned and operated restaurants – so you know you can eat like a local, rather than dining at a ho-hum chain restaurant. Throughout the month, our blog team will be sharing some experiences at just a few of the gems in our community. To get things started though, I thought I would share my favorite menu items from each of our food-related Tourism Partner businesses! Since there are so many, I’ll keep my comments brief – you’ll have to trust me and then go try things for yourself!

Big Star Drive-In – Single Cheeseburger with onions (it has to be a cheeseburger!), and you have to eat it in your car for the full experience.

Boat House Pub & Eatery – Ocean Waves have been my favorite since I was 17 and waitressed here. They are a ribbon of potatoes that are deep-fried with parmesan cheese on top!

Brat Stop – Obviously the famous bratwurst that is grilled right behind the bar.

Bristol 45 Diner – Hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy.

Captain Mike’s  - The Shopping Cart burger – it’s stuffed with their house mac & cheese, guys.

Casa Capri – Their signature dish, the Baked Stuffed Rigatoni!

Choo Choo Charlie’s – Sweet and Salty Caramel Milkshake!

Culver’s of Pleasant Prairie – I love Cheese Curds!

Elsie Mae’s – Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie.

Franks Diner – The Garbage Plate is a go-to, but if you catch a weekend that they are featuring Captain Crunch French Toast as a special… DO IT!

Harborside Common Grounds – Any of the build-your-own breakfast sandwiches are amazing, I like mine on an Everything bagel.

HobNob – Does a Brandy Old Fashioned count? If not, I have to say that I adore their Garlic Bread with Gorgonzola Sauce appetizer.

House of Gerhard – Not on the regular menu, but a common daily special, is the Pot Roast served with red cabbage and a choice of potato.

Jack’s Café at Andrea’s – Any of their homemade soups!

Kaiser’s Pizza & Pub – Beer Nuggets with Marinara sauce.

La Fogata Mexican Grill – Piggyback Tacos or the Queso Blanco with homemade chips.

Mangia Wine Bar – Nonna’s Meatballs can’t be beat.

Mars Cheese Castle – I cannot disagree with Jeff Mauro from Food Network, the Grilled Cheese is out of this world!

Mason’s Eatery & Pub – Monte Cristo is a signature item, but I also love their salads.

Mike’s Chicken & Donut Bar – Chicken Pot Pie Soup with homemade biscuits and honey butter!

Mike’s Sportsbook & Meat Bar – Any of their weekend specials are amazing, but a staple is the Jameson Honey Glazed Atlanic Salmon.

Robin’s Nest Cakery – Carrot Cake Cupcakes or S’more bites!

Ron’s Place – Italian Fries with Marinara and Cheese Sauces! (These are not only my favorite thing at Ron’s Place, but among my favorite things in town!)

Sandy’s Popper – Kenosha Mix Popcorn.

Sazzy B – The menu here changes seasonally, but the Blackened Fish Tacos are still my favorite.

Soon’s Sushi Café – Soon makes the best Spicy Tuna Roll in the world! The Nude Roll is also fantastic!

Tenuta’s Deli – Anything from the grill in the summertime, but the Tortellini salad is my favorite thing year-round.

tg’s Restaurant & Pub – The house hot beef is incredible, but Meatloaf is served every Monday and it’s marvelous.

The Buzz Café – The menu changes seasonally, but the Perfectly Peared Date is currently my favorite Panini.

The Coffee Pot – The Harbor Benedict – like traditional eggs benedict but with homemade toast instead of an English muffin. So good!

The Garage – I used to love the Yank Tank, but with the new menu out I am falling hard for the Taco Truck.

The Red Oak Restaurant – Their Wisconsin Cheese & Sausage Board is awesome, but the Duck Breast is also on point.

The Spot Drive-In – Double cheeseburger with grilled onions and the Homemade Root Beer. Love that I can enjoy a drive-in in the middle of a Wisconsin winter!

Trolley Dogs – The Trolley Dog, duh!

Tuscany Bistro Bar & Grill – Gamberi & Calamari – ask for extra bread to soak up the sauce. I wouldn’t steer you wrong!

Twisted Cuisine – The Saganaki will always be a favorite for me, but my seasonal favorite is the Flat Iron steak with Bleu Cheese crème brûlée.

Uncle Mike’s Highway Pub – The Fezy Chicken Dip – chicken, cream cheese, cheddar cheese, buffalo sauce and ranch served with homemade tortilla chips or fresh bread!

Villa D’Carlo – Bev’s Favorite Pizza!

Village Supper Club – In addition to everything else on the menu, the Filet Steak Sandwich is tops.

Waterfront Warehouse – It’s a toss up between the Figenza Flatbread and the Cajun Tilapia. Either way, I recommend a side of Sweet Potato fries.

Wine Knot – Another restaurant that has a seasonal menu, but the Macadamia Nut Crusted Halibut is always available and is outstanding!

Okay, now I am starving and you are, too, most likely. My job here is complete. Watch for more foodie-themed blogs over the next few weeks for great ideas on dining options in our area. Go explore our culinary landscape for yourself.
