Head to Lemon Street! No, it's not an actual street - well not anymore. Lemon Street Gallery is an art gallery, artist co-op, and studio space near Union Park on Kenosha's east side. It was named, as the road it is located on was, at one time, called Lemon Street. There are plenty of reasons to visit your local art gallery; any local shop or restaurant for that matter. However, Lemon Street Gallery is a particularly great place to explore, especially this time of year. Here are a few reasons to check it out before 2020 comes to an end....

  1.  Viewing top-notch local art in person.  Lemon Street Gallery and Artspace is located at 4601 Sheridan Rd, in Kenosha’s Union Park Arts District, and has been in operation for 21 years.  Kenosha is lucky to have such a wonderful collection of beautiful, thought-provoking, and inspiring artwork to escape from the realities of everyday life.  While social media affords us the opportunity to see art from the comfort of our own home, gazing on a piece in person can have such a transformative effect.  Stop by soon and take in all that Lemon Street Gallery has to offer!
  2. Purchasing one-of-a-kind gifts.  Nothing conveys love and appreciation for someone like a hand crafted, locally made piece of art.  Whether it be a painting, a clay mug, a pair of gloves, a handbag, or a holiday ornament, Lemon Street Gallery’s annual “Artistree” event has the right thing for you.  This year the event has been expanded to include an additional room of items and runs from November 12th to December 24th.  Give your loved ones something special this year and help sustain our art community at the same time.
  3. Engaging with Kenosha’s art community.  Lemon Street Gallery is a non-profit gallery with around 80 artist members who display their work in various ways.  The methods of art among the members vary greatly and include watercolor, oil painting, photography, sculpture, wood turning, clay, and so many more.  By displaying, promoting, and selling their work Lemon Street Gallery provides a creative boost for its artist members.  The gallery also offers classes, that help mold the next generation of artists and gives those of us who are otherwise non-artistic, an outlet for our creativity.  While the pandemic has temporarily limited these classes, the gallery remains a hub for imaginative expression in Kenosha.  Check out the facebook page for artist profiles, live videos of new exhibits, and all sorts of fun.
  4. Supporting local artists.  The turmoil of 2020 has had wide-reaching effects on nearly all aspects of our society and that extends to Lemon Street Gallery as well.  With classes being cancelled, the gallery being closed for a few months this spring, and challenges surrounding sanitization and protection, times are certainly tough.  By donating, buying art, or even just visiting the gallery, you are helping sustain a vital aspect of our community through some very trying times.  We look to art and artists to help soothe and comfort us when things are rough.  Art is a salve that heals our souls, and we need that now more than ever.
