Winter is here, but it’s not so bad when there is fun stuff to do! So, what do we do for winter fun? There is no better activity than Ice Skating! How lucky we are that Kenosha has its own ice rink right Downtown?!

Blake’s Take: Since my mom isn’t the best at winter activities, we had to recruit my Aunt Leeanne and cousin Kailee to put on skates. They have been a few times already since the rink opened this season, so they were the perfect people to show me the ropes. They are basically seasoned professionals! First thing we had to do was check out some ice skates - totally free with a valid ID at the Skate Hut on-site - sponsored this year by the Mayor’s Youth Commission. After getting skates on and making my way (a little wobbly) to the 32-foot by 60-foot ice rink, it was time to give it my best shot. Slowly but surely, with a little help, I found my balance and was able to do a little bit of skating all on my own!

Mom’s Notes: We went at night but the rink was well lit, free parking was available too! When you go during the Skate Hut’s designated hours, you are never alone at the park and there is a portable washroom on site. While I didn’t skate, there were plenty of benches to sit and watch (and take photos!). A bonus is that there are great restaurants and shops nearby, so grab a bag of popcorn if you are a spectator like me, or hot cocoa at Common Grounds to warm up after you skate!

This is the third year the ice rink has been available in Kenosha. Depending on weather, it will remain open through March, make sure you stop by before the seasons change. The ice rink is located at Veterans Memorial Park just east of City Hall, 625 52nd St. While the Skate Hut is open Monday - Thursday 4 – 9 pm, Friday 12 – 9pm, Saturday 9 am – 9 pm, and Sunday 12 – 7:30 pm, the ice rink itself is open 9 am – 10 pm daily (weather permitting) – so you have plenty of opportunities to make a visit! Happy Skating!!
