Nestled in the heart of Downtown Kenosha is a brand new gem that you may not know about yet. The Apis Restaurant boasts a menu of culinary creativity and bar - top bravado. Featuring shareable plates, a bold offering of entrees, and exquisite cocktails, the Apis is a necessary stop in Kenosha.

Prior to my first dining experience at The Apis, I chose to use their online reservation system. There are three options: “Dining Room”, “Overlook”, and the “Chef’s Table”. I chose “Overlook” seating – which is located on the second level mezzanine - to have a more private experience while still being able to view the lower dining area of the restaurant. However, after my first meal at The Apis, I’m tempted to go back and try the “Chef’s Table Experience”. In that dining adventure, you’re seated at their kitchen prep station and have the pleasure of enjoying a 9-10 course journey from Executive Chef Danielle Weybright.

Once you’ve selected your desired seating location, it’s time to look over the menu (which is available to preview online, so you can prepare for your visit). The Apis menu highlights the freshest of ingredients and has the ability to change day-to-day and month-to-month, so there’s always something new to try. Watch for specials featuring products from local farmers' markets, too. During my visit, the menu ranged from Lobster Cucumber Ceviche to Jackfruit Tacos. Everything that I ordered contained a perfect balance of flavors and textures, and my palate was left wanting more – in a good way. The highlight of my meal was a selection from their “Just Sweet Enough” menu: a dark chocolate mezcal cake, smoked mango, tajin mascarpone, and dehydrated blood orange. The cake was light and airy, and given a subtle sweetness from the tajin mascarpone. “Just Sweet Enough” is the perfect description because I was not overwhelmed with a sugary taste. Every bite satisfied my sweet tooth.

My outing was enhanced by the creative cocktails that complimented the menu. I treated myself to one of their specialties, the “BeetHive”. The ingredients include Old Tom gin, honey, and beet, amongst others. The glass is served dusted in bee pollen, making it the perfect cocktail to grace your Instagram feed. The cocktail itself was just like the dining menu, perfectly balanced and a work of art.

Dinner at the Apis was an outstanding experience; the friendly staff, delicious food, and craft cocktails made this a dinner to remember. The Apis is the perfect spot for you and your special someone, or just as a treat to yourself. Be sure to come hungry, and ready for a culinary adventure! Coming soon: The Apis Hotel
