In It Together

Thank you from the desk of Dennis DuChene, President KACVB

In case no one has said it lately, Thank You! Thank you to the Kenosha Area residents and businesses who are supporting each other right now. While this time has been challenging and unpredictable for all of us, it is great to see our Tourism Partners doing the best they can to adapt to the circumstances. It is heartwarming to see the community rising to the occasion of helping these businesses survive and thrive.

Who knew most of our partner restaurant partners could become so good at curbside delivery so quickly? We did – they are pretty good at a lot of things! And how about the cleverness of delivering ready-to-mix cocktail kits, wine and beer with your favorite take-out?  Many of our retail partners developed on online stores and now offering contactless curbside pickup. Some retailers converted to a mail order model. It is amazing how creative folks can be when they need to change to keep their business going. And how willing consumers are to change their buying habits to support this small businesses. Now that things are reopening, it’s nice to see these new options for shopping still in play.

Fossils? I think not! Our museums are anything but archaic! They have developed virtual experiences and activities to entertain and educate the young and the young at heart - digitally. From evergreen tours to fresh, weekly programming, there is something to enjoy on a website or social media network at any given time. With hours of operation coming back, there are options for museum experiences for everyone’s comfort levels – from home or in person. Similarly, art galleries and studios have adapted classes and DIY offerings to be available on-site or at home, as well! Check out the take-home kits from Alpaca Arts and Pinot’s Palette.

Many events have been rescheduled and unfortunately many have cancelled. However, some have taken on virtual formats. With summer weather here, there are some great outdoor options like music at local venues such as the Petrifying Springs Biergarten and Union Park Tavern to a name a few, or even the upcoming Flicks on the Farm at Jerry Smith’s! Our team continues to keep our calendar up to date so that you will know what events to look forward to.

The Kenosha Area is here, ready and waiting for you when you feel the time is right. Whether you are a local resident looking to get out and be with friends and family in closer proximity, or a potential visitor looking for a little getaway that is affordable and an easy drive from home. You can start planning now – we’ll even send you a FREE Visitors Guide to help you in the process. (We know you’ve got time to dream, research, and plan right now!) If you’re ready for a day trip, a staycation, or a weekend getaway, we’re here to help you make good decisions for that adventure as well.

Thanks to everyone keeping our small businesses going. The shoppers. The staff. The owners. Those who donated to recovery funds. Thanks to our healthcare workers and first responders who continue to work 24/7 to keep us safe. Please keep up the great work you are all doing for our community. We really are all in this together.
