Am I the only one who doesn’t like holiday shopping? Crowded stores, not knowing what to get, worrying about consumerism and waste (all that packaging!)… as much as I love the other festivities of the Christmas season, shopping makes me feel like a grinch.

So this year I put together a gift guide of Kenosha favorites to make my gift-giving simple and enjoyable for me - and a real treat for the people on my list. Hope it helps your holiday making too!

Hit the Market

Visit the Kenosha Winter HarborMarket for gift and food items aplenty. For the person who’s tough to shop for, something delicious is always a safe bet. Don’t miss the HarborHoliday International Market and Festival, December 7 - 8, 2019. The entertainment and festive spirit here will get you in the mood to browse for gifts. Check out gifts and crafts from cultures around the world, ornaments made by local artists, and many food and gift vendors.

Get Fancy

Maybe there’s someone on your list who’s known for their style and flair… or someone who could benefit from a bit more flair. (No judgments!) Mike Bjorn’s Clothing is known for its dapper apparel - how about a hat, a bow tie, or some funky socks? Jack Andrea’s men’s shop can top off the look with body products and accessories, plus a wide selection of premium cigars. If your special someone’s style is more Vera Bradley and beautiful jewelry, Jack Andrea has you covered there too. GRINCH BONUS: Classy and complimentary gift wrapping! That present is wrapped and you are DONE.

Support an Artist

The Kenosha area is home to many talented artisans, and the holidays are a perfect time to support them. Lemon Street Gallery’s month-long Artistree Giftable Art Show & Sale features giftable ceramics, textiles, glass, jewelry, accessories, and other art items. The show is juried (meaning only the best are included) and features many local artists. Don’t let the name fool you: DeBerge’s Framing and Gallery offers more than just picture frames. The store carries a wide variety of artisan, handcrafted wearable items and decor that you won’t find anywhere else.

Make Your Own

Or, you can be the artist and give a gift made with love. Make a customized bracelet or necklace at Peacetree Originals, or paint your own pottery item at Alpaca Art. GRINCH BONUS: Take your kids to paint at Alpaca Art’s studio and you can nail gift-making and an activity at the same time, without messing up your house. Win-win-win.

If you’re looking for something unique but would rather leave the artistry to a professional, you can design a custom embroidered or screen printed item at The Lettering Machine - or choose from their selection of apparel and more, including holiday and Kenosha/Wisconsin items. Against the Grain Creative Concepts can work with you to create custom furniture and other items made from reclaimed lumber and vintage building materials.

Don’t Forget the Kids and “Kids”

You can pretty much count on the children in your life getting plenty of toys, so why not give them an experience? For locals, a class or membership at the Kenosha YMCA or the Kenosha Public Museum is a nice way to spend your indoor winter days. Get outside over Christmas break by skiing, snowboarding, or tubing at Wilmot Mountain. With 20+ trails, a ski school, and a 22-lane tubing area, kids of all ages (and their grown-ups!) will have something to do.

For your furbabies, K9 Kibble and Jerry Smith’s Feed & Seed store have plenty of cat and dog toys and treats. Or, reserve your spot for Pet Photos with Santa on November 30th, to get a picture that will make a pet parent proud.

Happy shopping and happy holidays!
