Lightin' Up Downtown Kenosha WI

It’s your favorite Kenosha kid, Blake, back to give you some more inside scoop on Kenosha’s best events. Even though Thanksgiving is still on its way, recent weather definitely has me in the holiday spirit! So I cannot wait for this year’s Lightin’ Up Downtown and the City of Kenosha Tree Lighting Ceremony

This annual event takes place the Friday after Thanksgiving, which will fall on November 29.. It kicks off at Fountain Plaza located west of the Kenosha Public Museum at 4 p.m. with the countdown to the annual tree lighting. There will be a few performers while we wait: Ivy Ford and Candy Eisenhauer will lead a community sing-a-long before Kenosha Mayor, John Antaramian and Santa will start the countdown!! After they countdown and the tree lights up right around 5 p.m.,  you can follow Santa on an unofficial parade down to the Rhode Center for the Arts. Here you will be able to meet and take pictures with Santa Claus (make sure your grownup brings a camera) from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. Make sure you’ve been really good and have your wish list ready! The Rhode will also be selling hot chocolate to help you warm up, along with other treats.

Wondering what Mrs. Claus is doing while Santa is meeting all his fans? She will be at Actors Craft helping kids write and send letters to Santa, which is great if you’re like me you get star-struck when talking to Santa. (I sometimes forget to tell Santa what I really want for Christmas!) You’ll also want to stop by the alley just north of The Buzz Café where The Buzz and the folks from Daybreak Church will have a themed pop up event! You’ll enjoy carolers and a hot chocolate bar! Throughout the evening many Downtown business will be participating in this event with lots of activities and specials. You can find the complete list and more even information on the Downtown Kenosha website

Participating Downtown businesses will be competing in a storefront decorating contest, too. There will be prizes for the top three businesses with the most votes for their window displays and decorations – so pay attention and be sure to vote for your favorite. All voting takes place online and when you vote you will be entered into a drawing for a Downtown Kenosha gift basket full of gift cards for Downtown businesses and even a stay at the new Stella Hotel & Ballroom. I’m looking forward to visiting some of my favorite downtown places  for all the fun and my mom is excited to take advantage of the great deals – and we are both excited to enjoy all the decorations!

Here are a few of the things we have on our checklist for the night:
Alpaca art has special pricing on some great holiday pieces without any extra studio fees. We will definitely be stopping at Elsie Mae’s for FREE face painting, make-your-own pine cone bird feeder, and cookie decorating and cutie pie making (some activities have a small fee). As the reigning champion of the last coloring contest this autumn in Downtown Kenosha, I’ll be stopping by Studio Moonfall to drop off the my entry. If you think you can beat me, make sure to print up a copy found on the studio’s Facebook Page! Bring your completed coloring creation in and grab some free hot cocoa while you’re at it - prizes will be awarded for the top three designs! When we stop by Sandy’s Popper to pick up some yummy popcorn treats to take home, I’ll get a free popcorn ball with any purchase! While my mom shops the 40% off sale at Madison Bleu, I can make my own candy cane reindeer. I’m also looking forward to seeing what will be going on at Scoops and Robins Nest Cakery!! My mom will definitely be checking out all the great sales the stores will be starting, most continuing the specials for Small Business Saturday happening the next day. My mom and I want to remind you all to Shop Local this holiday season!

This event is sure to draw a big crowd! 18,000 people joined in last year with more expected this year! You won’t want to miss event, so make sure to mark your calendars, clean up your thanksgiving dishes early, and get ready to have some fun in Downtown Kenosha on November 29It’s not a BLACK FRIDAY when you LIGHTIN’ UP!  Be sure to say “Hi” when you see me out and about!
