We have been having mother/daughter “girls’ days” since my daughter was just a toddler. (Oh, in case you didn’t know, we are a mother/daughter duo - we both blog for Visit Kenosha. Gale DeAngelis is mom to Autumn Jones!!) Now that she is 22, it’s even better because we can both get Long Islands from Ron’s Place -- woohoo! We are so fortunate to live in a city with so much to do! A Girls’ Day can be had on any day of the week, in any season with options for anyone to enjoy. It doesn’t have to include getting your hair our nails done, although this time for us it did. There are plenty of great things to enjoy as you spend time together. Here’s how we spent our most recent day together.

We started our day by going to  The Daily Dose Cafe, our fave local coffee shop! Though they have an awesome breakfast, we opted for just coffee. Being a warmer day, we wanted some frappes to cool off. Amazingly, the staff at The Dose, as we affectionately call it (you can too, you’ll sound like a local) can turn any latte into a blended frappe. We chose caramel and almond roca, both so yummy! When you visit, be sure to take note of their new plant based menu – everything is delicious!

Our next stop was an appointment at The Girl is Polished, located right off of Sheridan Road in Downtown Kenosha. A locally owned, newer business, we had never been there before. Erika, the owner, was so sweet and easy to contact. She spent an hour with each one of us and was so accommodating! We enjoyed our spa pedicures and some delicious chocolate truffles. The one-on-one, private service was incredible. This was a traditionally “girlie” part of our day and really pampering. It was nice to experience and support a new small business in our community, too. They offer manicures, pedicures, lash extensions, and other services, as well.

We wanted to let our creative side shine and chose to visit Lemon Street Gallery. I frequent Lemon Street by working in their free clay studio, and have been doing pottery for 35 years! So, we didn’t need guidance, but classes are offered and can scheduled at your convenience. Once you have a basic knowledge of clay and the tools, a pound of clay is only $3 and glazes and firing are included in your clay purchase! We worked on the wheel to throw some bowls and mugs, and we will be back later in the week to trim the pots. Doing pottery is so fun to decompress, learn a new skill, or just play around.

After being caked in clay, we decided to head over to the Biergarten at Petrifying Springs Park. We sipped on some drinks and ordered the Wisconsin Pretzel Board. It’s a huge Bavarian pretzel served with fresh cheese curds, snack sausage bites, beer dip and mustard dip. The perfect salty treat for any Wisconsinite! Yes, that’s right, these Wisconsin girls definitely added a cold beer to their day out!

While this was our casual girls’ day, yours can go any way you please! Maybe it will include fishing or biking, touring a museum or painting, taking a streetcar riding or checking out a new restaurant, trying a wine flight or sampling pies. Kenosha has no shortage of things to do, food to eat, or places to go. Call up your mom, daughter, sister, or bestie and get out there to plan your own girls day now!
