Living in the western part of Kenosha County, and spending part of my marketing career working in the agriculture industry, I have the upmost respect for our farming community and the hard work they put in each day.  The Kenosha County Fair is a celebration of these accomplishments and achievements in our community. The 2019 edition of the fair takes place August 14-18.

There are so many great things to see and do at the fair.  You can view multiple livestock showings, produce and flower growing competitions, and cultural arts displays (which includes one of my favorites - the quilts) which are judged for best in show. There is plenty to feast on – snacks, entrees, and desserts. Another annual favorite is the antique tractor display.  It shows the evolution of farm equipment. Generally an owner is on hand if you have questions about the tractor’s history.

For the kids, there is a midway with several different rides and games.  A separate pass is available to enjoy unlimited rides throughout the day.  There are also free interactive shows for kids that my daughters really enjoy.  The petting zoo and pig races are big hits for the whole family.

Some of our favorite “fair foods” include funnel cakes and roasted corn dipped in butter. There are a variety of kiosks to purchase snacks while walking around the fairgrounds – so come hungry. Each day, two bands perform at the Creekside Stage; the concerts are included in the price of admission to the fair.  A popular regional group, Bella Cain, is playing Saturday night and always draws a big crowd.

Finally, what would the fair be without the Sunday afternoon demolition derby! For the newbies, the object of the derby is to be the last vehicle remaining.  People purchase “junk” vehicles, then take them on to the track and run into their opponents until either their vehicle or the other participant’s vehicle stops running. There are various classes of vehicles and the event takes place at the grandstand at Wilmot Raceway. You can catch the Derby starting at 1:00 on Sunday afternoon.

You won't want to miss any of the fun! Find a complete listing of events, ticket information, and midway discount days on the Kenosha County Fair website
