Country Thunder is an annual Country music festival that originated in Twin Lakes Wisconsin in 1996. It has grown over the years to include the hottest stars on the country music scene.  I personally attend at least one or two days during the festival each year to catch the great acts that draw a large crowd to Kenosha County.

The 4-day festival will happen July 18 – 21 this year. The lineup does not disappoint. Primetime performances include Jake Owen, Tim McGraw, Luke Combs, and Chris Stapleton. A full line cup can be found at www.countrythunder.com

In addition to the main bowl, there is a smaller stage featuring local and up-and-coming acts. A variety of food trucks and vendors are on premises for dining and beverage options. It is important to know that all food and beverage purchases require tickets from the ticket booth (no cash will be accepted at vendor booths). You can take a little bit of the festivities home with you, as there a variety of kiosks for purchasing concert memorabilia or country themed merchandise. There is even an amusement area for individuals seeking sling shot style rides.

Camping on the grounds is a popular option. If you are camping and want to explore Twin Lakes and the surrounding area, there are two beaches nearby open to the public, Lance Park in Twin Lakes and Silver Lake State Park. There are several nearby attractions, restaurants, and additional lodging options, too.

Pro Tips for Attending Country Thunder:

  • If you have a RFID Band – activate it for Country Thunder
  • Bring your Driver’s License for purchase of alcoholic beverages (get your 21+ wristband first)
  • Bring Sunscreen and BugSpray – this is the county in the summertime
  • Wear a hat – or a cowboy hat
  • Wear comfortable ehoes – I personally would not recommend open toed shoes or sandles
  • Pack a Disposable Rain Poncho, Country Thunder is know to be a muddy event, it’s part of the charm
  • Fanny Packs or crossbody bags are suggested for keeping personal items
  • There are no seats or benches at the festival grounds. Bring your own lawn chairs or a blanket for the concerts

Travel and Parking Notes:

  • The Main Lot is very busy. Be sure to note where you have parked your vehicle
  • The Preferred Lot  has an additional fee but also has ADA accommodated parking spaces and an ADA entrance to the festival grounds
  • The festival grounds are near Private Homes, be respectful of private property. If you are parking at a friend or family member’s home, or a resident who has offered parking, follow all parking instructions and be prepared to walk to the grounds.
  • Certain roads require a local permit that is checked before allowing your vehicle to pass. Please check with the Twin Lakes community page for closures before attending
  • Consider taking advantage of the Lakefront Shuttle which serves the following Kenosha Hotels: Country Inn & Suites and Best Western Executive Inn. For details and pricing call 262-203-4769
  • Kenosha has Lyft or Uber as a travel alternative, these services are great options to avoid parking overload and traffic congestion

We look forward to seeing many Country music fans at Country Thunder 2019 in the Kenosha Area this year for the festival. Don’t forget to browse the Kenosha Area Visitors Guide and get the most out of your trip to our corner of the state.
