April showers bring May flowers, just in time for Mother’s Day.  And as luck would have it, you can always find fresh flowers at A Summer’s Garden Florist in Downtown Kenosha - it’s also downtown’s newest tattoo parlor, jewelry store and wine spot.  It’s true!  They are expanding!

For Mother’s Day, which falls on Sunday, May 12 this year, you can never go wrong with flowers and owners Lyna and Kevin Postuchow can attest to that because believe it or not, Mother’s Day is their busiest time!  Walking into their shop is like exploring a secret garden full of gifts, home decor and of course flowers.  Closer to Mother’s Day they will even have hanging baskets available.  There’s no particular flower that is their most popular so whether you choose a mixed bunch, tulips, lilies or just let them know your loved one’s favorite color and they will roll with it.  The most impressive part of their flower arrangements is that they create them themselves!  Nothing cookie cutter here!  You can order online, pick up the phone and call it in or you can drop in to place your order and even see Kevin in action putting those beautiful blooms together right before your eyes!  Plus enjoy same day delivery in the Kenosha area!  Bloom, magic!

Flowers not your mom’s fave?  They also have soaps, lotions and candles made by Lyna herself!  She makes soy wax candles with lead free wicks in scents like honey, oatmeal cookie, apple tart and spice…and everything nice!  The candles come in a frosted glass container and are available in three different sizes with a burn time of anywhere from 20 to 40 hours depending on the size.

What mom doesn’t love jewelry?  They are now offering gorgeous fresh flower rings!  Perfect for Mother’s Day to make her feel awesome.  Make your mom a trend-setter with this new hot look!

But if your mom is her happiest when she stands out in a crowd, make her turn heads this Mother’s Day with a fresh take on an old tradition!  Make her the talk of the party and surprise her with a fresh flower tattoo!  There’s all sorts of ways to wear this new comfortable tattoo - no needles here!  Wear it on your arm, back, shoulder, hand, fingers…pretty much anywhere!  And application is literally as easy as 1-2-3!  First clean the area where you want the tattoo to go with the alcohol wipe that is provided, peel back the adhesive strip, place it and give it a quick press - she is ready to IMPRESS!

Not only are Lyna and Kevin professional custom flower designers, they are also experts in cut flower maintenance and care.  They offered up a few pro tips to keep your flowers as beautiful as they were the day you brought them home:

  • Make sure your flowers always have clean water.  Every few days change out the water and cut the ends of the stems again to reopen the pores.
  • To keep bacteria out of the water, take a butterknife and dip it in bleach and then dip the knife back into the water.  The bleach will keep the flower’s water bacteria-free!
  • Flowers like to be cold, which it why flowers are usually kept in a refrigerator in a floral shop.  Keep the flowers away from heat sources.  Think of flowers like produce.  You wouldn’t leave lettuce sitting out on the counter for a week, would you?
  • Finally, long-stem roses have always been a popular pick for Mother’s Day, but short-stem roses are a better bunch.  Think of a long bendy straw; it takes longer for the flowers to drink.  So when it comes to flower stems, the shorter the better.

How about some wine with those roses?  While you wouldn’t think of A Summer’s Garden Florist being on the top shelf of places to go for wine, they do have the perfect pairing for a mom who loves wine but doesn’t need another bottle.  It’s a wine bottle shaped case that holds a wonderfully sturdy, black umbrella.  Best part?  You can put the umbrella back in the wine case when wet so that you can stay dry, like your wine.  Sweet, huh?  Perfect if the April showers continue into May.

So for Mother’s Day, or any day you need some sunshine, remember A Summer’s Garden Florist and fill your pockets full of posies for mom!
