Enjoy fishing in Kenosha Wisconsin this weekend

The Wisconsin DNR is hosting the annual Summer Free Fishing Weekend on June 1 – 2, 2019! There is no need for a fishing license or trout stamp to fish in Lake Michigan or any inland lakes or ponds during these dates. This is the perfect opportunity for you to spend the whole day outdoors, away from TVs and computers, with your family and friends! Kenosha is well-known by fishermen who come from out-of-town just to fish off the piers and shores of Lake Michigan, but there are many other great places to take your family fishing in the Kenosha Area, too.

For beginners, a small pond like Poerio Park is ideal. In this pond kids can catch bluegill or trout - and they don’t even need an expensive fishing rod.  When you need a break from fishing, you can have a picnic lunch under their shelter and let the kids play at the playground.

Another perfect fishing area is Anderson Park. This has always been a favorite for families with kids. It is stocked every year by the DNR with trout and panfish – so a catch is almost guaranteed. Along with a great fishing pond, there is a playground, picnic area, awesome soccer field, and even a dog park within the area making it a fabulous place to spend the day together.

If you want more outdoor options for hiking, biking, and exploring between your casting a line, then Richard Bong State Recreation Area is the place for you. Here they are offering a free fishing clinic for kids from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 pm on Sunday, June 2 at the kids pond east of the visitor’s center. The fun doesn’t have to stop here. If you go further into the park, you will find a beautiful, family friendly pond that has a pier with railings for the kids to fish off. The bluegill come right up to the top! This pond has a park, picnic area, nature trails and even a volleyball court. On June 1 and 2, your park entrance and trail fees are waived at Bong.

Rain or shine, the fish will bite! So get out there and try your hand at the great sport of fishing. Free Fishing Weekend is the perfect time to explore and learn what spots you like to fish best.
