Spring is finally here - yay! The weather is starting to warm up and planting season is officially upon us (shout-out to the busy gardeners). The Easter Bunny will be here before we know it, and if you’re like me, you’re already preparing Easter basket treats and fun activities for the whole family. Below are some of my favorite ways to treat my family (by age group) and fill their Easter baskets with special gifts that are sure to delight.

For little kids

There are so many awesome shops in the Kenosha Area that will help you stock up on treats for the kids. Of course we have the Jelly Belly Visitor Center, which features a candy store that is stocked from top to bottom, making it a great stop. Sandy’s Popper, in Downtown Kenosha, features over 50 gourmet popcorn flavors and a variety of unique candy treats any kid would love. Sandy’s ‘Silly Rabbit’ popcorn flavor is a colorful and ‘punny’ choice, and the shop features several other options that are perfect for Easter (or other special occasions), such as Birthday Cake and Bumbleberry. Myrtle Mae’s Sugar Emporium is another excellent choice for Easter baskets, with tons of homemade dessert treats like mini cupcakes and chocolates, as well as old fashioned candy options available in bulk by the pound. If you’re looking for unique toys and book options you can check out Jack Andrea, which features hand-selected baby and children’s gifts, as well as gourmet Easter candy.

For teenagers

Shopping for teens isn’t always the easiest endeavor, but with these tips you’re sure to find something special that delights them! For girls, a good option is a gift certificate to Moda Bella Salon & Spa for a little spring break pampering. Another great option is a girls day plan for springtime nail art at The Girl is Polished! If your teenager is more creative, consider a trip to Peacetree Originals, Alpaca Arts, or Pinot’s Palette where your crew can create their own jewelry, painted pottery, or canvas art (respectively). Gift certificates are available for all three! Modern Apothecary is a great place to find health and beauty items for teenage boys and girls – or adults too! Teen boys interested in comic books, retro video games and action figures will love just about anything from Inner Child Comics & Collectibles – and there are plenty of price point options. Another great choice for guys is Something Different with their wide range of sports team gifts from penicls to clothing and everything in between!

For adults

Grown-ups should have a little Easter treat, too! For wine lovers consider picking up a bottle (or two, or three—who’s counting?) from Iron Depot Winery or The Buzz. Or bring a bottle to your host or hostess for Easter dinner! Home décor items can be found at Jack Andrea and Seebecks – with plenty of spring items in stock. Jack Andrea also has a premier cigar shop, so if dads and uncle need a special something in their easter basket, this is another great reason to stop at this shop. Vintage finds abound at places like The Cypress Tree and Against the Grain Creative Concepts. You might just find the perfect little bobble to complement your chic Easter basket.

Of course these suggestions are just a small sample of what’s available when you shop local in Kenosha. I always try to stay local and shop small when I can, because I find those gifts are the ones that make the most impact. I also appreciate the customer service that comes from these mom and pop shops. (Today is National Mom & Pop Business Owner Day, too, so congrats to all the local places that make Kenosha great!) J
