It’s not often I find myself out on a Friday night these days. As a working mom, usually I’m too exhausted from the week to think about going out after work. But occasionally I get a burst of energy at the end of the week and I find myself making plans on a Friday night. Sometimes you just need to eat a meal that you didn’t cook, am I right?!

My husband and I don’t go out for many date nights, so when we get the chance we make the most of it. We always start the evening with dinner at one of our favorite local spots. When we want to treat ourselves, we head to the Wine Knot to indulge in a duck or fish entree and flights of our favorite reds. We’ve never been disappointed with a dish here, because everything on the menu is delicious! If we’re not eating at Wine Knot, then we’re at another local hotspot like Captain Mike’s or Kaisers Pizza & Pub. If you haven’t had a burger at Captain Mike’s then you haven’t had a burger! And the pizza at Kaiser's is, in my opinion, the best in town―arguably the best in the state of Wisconsin. One of the best parts about making Downtown Kenosha your dining destination is that there are so many options – if you are a couple that can never decide where to go, or if your favorite place is filled… there are several other spots within walking distance!

In Wisconsin, Fish Fry Fridays are pretty popular. If a fish dinner is what you seek on Fridays, Pete's Union Park Tavern (formerly Pete's Place) is famous for their dinners and are known to sell out. The Boat House and tg's Restaurant & Pub also offer great fish specials on Friday nights. In fact, you'll be hard pressed to find a restaurant in our area that doesn't have some kind of Friday fish special!

After dinner we like to have dessert, either at the restaurant we dined at, or more commonly in the summer, at Scoops! We love trying all of the different flavors that Scoops has to offer! There’s also great outdoor seating on the north side of the ice cream shop, which is awesome on a summer evening. Its convenient location downtown is perfect, because everything else is nearby, too. Other dessert stops could include Sandy’s Popper or Elsie Mae’s – we love all the options. And that’s important, because after dessert it’s second dessert―in the form of adult beverages!

If we’re feeling especially adventurous, we stop for a night cap at one of the many downtown pubs. One of our favorite spots is PUBLIC Craft Brewing Co. because my husband loves craft beer. He likes to order his favorite locally brewed beer, and I like to order a flight for variety and sampling (also, I can never remember what anything tastes like). Speaking of breweries, Rustic Road Brewery offers FREE Trivia on Friday nights, which makes for a fun date night. Live entertainment can often be found at Sazzy B or Fusion, too. There are a number of great bars and pubs to enjoy a cocktail before heading home – Century Pub, Sazzy B, or Mike’s Sportsbook, just to name a few.

With great food, drinks, and entertainment, it’s not hard to have a great night out in Kenosha. If you scope out the options at, you’ll be able to Friday Night like a Local in no time!
