Dine with your dog in the Kenosha Area at these al fresco spots

With the dog days of summer upon us, what better time to treat your furry four-legged friends to a trip out for a cup of joe, burger, or a fine dining experience. The world is becoming a friendlier place for the pups in our lives and Kenosha is no exception. Here’s your local guide to dining al fresco with Fido.

Are you looking for a leisurely stop on your morning walk? Pop in to The Coffee Pot and enjoy time in their ‘Garden of Eatin’. Both you and your pet will enjoy the diner menu here that includes a dose of morning-pep-in-your-step by way off coffee, but a full beer, wine, and cocktail menu. Needing something a bit stronger? Try one of their famous Bloody Marys. Serving both breakfast and lunch, The Coffee Pot is sure to satisfy even the hungriest of eaters. They boast only using real butter on their toast, if that’s any indication on what their true diner style food is going to be like. They even recently opened up The Coffee Pot Inn where you can stay the night when the walk home just seems too daunting or if you want to stay in the area and walk along the lake longer with your fur baby.

In the mood for a frosty mug of root beer? Don’t want to have to leave the comfort of your car? Take a trip over to either Big Star Drive-In or The Spot Drive-in for a step back in time to the Car Hop Era. Both offer an experience for those pups that may be a bit more skittish when it comes to socialization. Open from March early March to Labor Day Weekend, Big Star Drive-In has been serving up their famous double cheeseburger since 1954.  The Spot Drive-In is open year round to get you your drive-in fix. The Spot has been a family owned staple in the Kenosha community since 1945 and prides themselves on their fresh, never frozen hamburgers. Both are a great place to visit with your dog that loves to go for a ride in the car!

If you and your dog are down for burgers, stop by The Garage or Captain Mike’s Beer & Burger Bar for some truly unique burger options. The Garage sports bar has an urban sideyard with outdoor seating and a bit more extensive menu boasting things like poutine and fried pickles in addition to those burger options and chicken for those of you looking for something lighter. Build your burger how you like it, stuffed with BBQ pork? They can do it! Captain Mike’s also offers fun appetizers like Wisconsin beer cheese soup, but the crazy burgers is what makes them famous. Try the ‘Dump Bees’ which is a “beef burger stuffed with gouda & brie, topped with roasted red peppers, jalapeños, and Cajun mayo.” Your pup will be drooling for their extra slathering of peanut butter they offer on all their burgers.

Is your furry pal a bit more high brow and in need of a whole dining experience? Take them for date night downtown to Villa D’Carlo or Wine Knot. Villa D’Carlo is known the area over as THE place to go for pizza. They don’t get that reputation for nothing! Their pizzas are the perfect thickness with just the right amount of toppings. Their choices are unique and flavors don’t disappoint. A true Italian destination in the heart of Downtown. You and your furry pal can enjoy the meal, and a glass of wine for yourself, outside with a view of the harbor in their newly expanded outdoor patio area. Be sure to make a reservation if you’re coming on the weekend! Wine Knot offers up fine dining that feels much more metropolitan - like you’re dining in Chicago or Milwaukee. Options like Avocado Toast Salad or Salmon Poke will leave you and your doggies begging for more. Their patio seating offers shaded areas under their gazebos.

We all know dogs are extensions of our families so get out there and spend time in the warm weather before those Wisconsin winters return. After you enjoy a meal together, check out one of our dog parks or walking paths together. You can even end the day with a Doggie Fro-Yo at Scoops or a special treat from K9 Kibble. Your pup will enjoy #KenoshaFun as much as you do!
