Kenosha Feels Like Home

Lake Michigan in Kenosha WI

Being part of military life, one can only hope that the places you are sent will be amazing. When I first moved to Kenosha, I was determined to discover all the awesome things that the area had to offer. Being from the east coast, I was naturally drawn to the waters of Lake Michigan and all its glory. Spending the day on the beach has been my favorite thing to do here. There is nothing like bringing your beach towel and your sun block, and just relaxing on the warm sand with the sun shining on you while taking in the breathtaking views of our Great Lake at Pennoyer Park or Simmons Island Beach

Another surprise was the fantastic dining. The restaurants here are unforgettable and so versatile. My all-time favorite neighborhood pub is Johnny’Z Pour House - I will always and forever dream of their sweet potato fries! The environment there is so welcoming and laid back, it made me feel at home - even on my first visit. Another one of my go to spots has been Franks Diner. It was the very first restaurant I went to when I first moved to Kenosha. The staff and vibe there are always so entertaining and quirky, which creates a true EXPERIENCE while dining. Not to mention the food… oh the food! Their pancakes will have a special place in my heart, always.

Even my little fur-baby, Wyatt, has favorite places in Kenosha, like the Carlisle Family Dog Park at Petrifying Springs Park. We love the separate off-leash areas for small and large dogs – both offer space for running around! Nearby hiking trails for both of us to enjoy, were just an added bonus. We would often go to Scoops Ice Cream, where a dog-friendly ice cream is available. Peanut Butter has been a favorite flavor for Wyatt to enjoy and cool off with. Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall - there has always been something for us to do here - which I love!

I often tell people that Kenosha has set the bar pretty high for places to live. We will be reporting for our next assignment this summer, and as hard as it is to leave Kenosha, I know that this community will forever hold a special place in our hearts. From the friendly and caring people to the amazing venues and businesses, this is a wonderful place to experience. In just 3 shorts years it became like home for me. I am not sure where our journey will take us next, but I hope that someday I will be able to come back here and see it all again. Who knows this could be our next vacation spot! It could be your next vacation spot, too!
