The calendar officially says it is Spring and so thoughts of getting out and about again seem to be on everybody’s To Do list. I don’t know about you, but I am ready to not be cooped inside at home anymore dealing with cabin fever. It is time to get out and mingle - and the perfect way to do that is to embrace all the wonderful visual arts that our area has to offer. Kenosha has a plethora of options to choose from…or, don't choose just one, go and see them all!

Support emerging artists at the Kenosha Unified School District Art Exhibit. This is the 47th year that this wonderful district wide event has been taking place. It runs from now through April 22nd, and is being held at the Kenosha Public Museum. Admission is FREE, so don’t miss your chance to check out the works of our little Picassos. Plus, you can explore all the other exhibits while you are visiting the museum.

Another great art exhibit is located at the H.F. Johnson Gallery of Art located at Carthage College. Now through April 20th they are featuring the works of Chicago-based artists Gwendolyn Zabicki and Ann Toebbe. This exhibition is FREE and is entitled “At Home”. It features works of art depicting daily chores and activities. I say going to this exhibit is much better then dealing with your own chores!

Another great installation in our area is "The Art of the Eye" exhibition. This is the first juried Kenosha Creative Space show. This exhibition features works that celebrate our unique vision. It runs thorough May 1st and is FREE to enjoy. You don’t want to miss this new space located in Downtown Kenosha!

Lemon Street Gallery has their featured artist exhibition for April that runs from the 4th through the 29th of the month. Included in the Brick Gallery are works of art featuring photography, jewelry, and mixed media. Join them for FREE at their Second Saturday Artist Reception from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on April 14th - you can meet the artists and partake in refreshments. And don’t forget you can also take classes, purchase great works of arts, volunteer and even become an artist member yourself at this wonderful gallery.

If you're exploring the lakefront, a stop at Anderson Arts Center is in order. April 8th through May 19th you can enjoy art exhibition titled "Works by Racine Art Guild". This exhibition will feature student art, 3-D carvings and more and is FREE to enjoy. Open Tuesday through Sundays from 1:00 pm to 4:00 p.m., the art gallery is housed inside this historic French Tudor mansion. Completed in 1931 with over 9,000 square feet of space and located on 4.7 acres offers spectacular views of Lake Michigan, this is a truly unique gallery. The Anderson Arts Center also offers a gift shop, kids art classes, music education, summer art camp, special events throughout the year, volunteer opportunities, and so much more. It is a true gem in our area.

Would you like to create your own piece of art? Looking for a fun, interactive date? Then you should check out the following options. You can paint your very own 1866 Southport Lighthouse while enjoying wine on Saturday, April 14th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. It will be hosted at the new Iron Horse Winery, LLC, located in Downtown Kenosha. Presented by the Kenosha History Center, this event is for those 21+ and pre-registration is required. For $35.00 you can have a great afternoon sipping away and walk away with a little piece of Kenosha history. Other create-your-own opportunities exist at Alpaca Art - where you can paint your own pottery. If you are a pencil lover or sketch artist, you'll want to check out the Pencillarium at Artworks, too.

Do you already have a great piece of art but don’t have it displayed because it isn’t framed? Looking for a one of kind gift for that special someone? DeBerge’s Framing & Gallery located in Uptown Kenosha can help you with your needs. This wonderful shop has been running since 1890 and 4 generations later it is still going strong. They offer custom picture framing, jewelry, handbags, home décor, and more. And you can join them on Sunday, April 29thfrom 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for their Spring Open House. Browse their selection while conversing with the owners and enjoying refreshments. Plus, partake in 20% off their new spring accessories. Seebecks in Pleasant Prairie is another great gallery and framin studio. Here, you'll find art and artisan wares that are mostly made in the United States!
