Looking for a way to beat the summer heat? You may not think of Kenosha County as a beach-goer destination, but it is just that! Although Kenosha has various beaches along the Lake Michigan shoreline, Kenosha County is home to 31 additional lakes, a few of which offer public access to beaches. I went and checked out a few of them recently, so here is the scoop!

Lilly Lake

The first beach I visited was the beach on Lilly Lake in the Town of Wheatland. This beach is one of the smaller beaches. Parking is available across the street from the beach. There is also no lifeguard on duty but is free to access, the water is clear, and because it is a smaller lake, it warms up quicker in the summertime! There is also a playground right on the beach. This beach is perfect for those who want a quiet beach that does not get too crowded! Note: there is not a public restroom at this beach, so come prepared!

Lake Mary

The second beach I visited was Lance Park on Lake Mary in the Village of Twin Lakes. This is one of the bigger beaches in the county. The swimming area is very large and there is ample parking available to accommodate beach-goers. The beach is free to access and there are also nice restrooms and a concession stand available on site. The beach itself is a bit rocky, and there are several boat launches nearby, which may make for some noise. Bonus: the Aquanuts water ski team performs water shows here on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 6:00 p.m., Memorial Day through Labor Day and the shows are free. This beach is great for boating and for entertainment in the summertime.

Paddock Lake

The third beach I visited was Old Settlers Park on Paddock Lake in the Village of Paddock Lake. This beach was on the smaller side, but functional for a day in the sun. The beach also offers ample parking, picnic tables, grills and a lot of shady trees along with a large grassy area. It offers several playgrounds, the Harris Family Dog Park, and on-site restrooms – so a lot of additional amenities. The beach is free Monday through Friday with a fee of $5 for Wisconsin residents and $10 for out-of-state residents on the weekends. There is also a lifeguard on duty on the weekends. This beach is perfect for families, or those who want to bring a picnic and spend a little time in the sun and a little time in the shade.

Silver Lake

The last beach I visited (and the most popular, it seems) was Silver Lake Beach on Silver Lake in the Village of Salem. Because the beach is located inside of a county park, there are plenty of other things to do here besides swim. Silver Lake Park offers multiple mountain biking trails, as well as hiking trails and a disc golf course. The beach itself is very sizable and there is ample parking. Patrons wishing to use only the beach will pay $5 for Wisconsin residents and $10 for out-of-state residents. There is a lifeguard on duty every day from Memorial Day to Labor Day from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The beach also has restrooms and a concessions stand. Kayak and paddleboard rentals are also available for those looking for a different way to enjoy the water – rentals are just $15 for the first hour and $5 per additional hour. This beach is perfect for those who want to spend a whole day at the beach!

There you have it. With so many parks in the Kenosha Area, finding just one to visit will be a challenge. There are also plenty of other beaches in Kenosha County that I did not have the time to visit, and there are great Lake Michigan Beaches, too. Dip your toes or go all in finding the beach that you like best!
