Mason’s Eatery & Pub is a locally owned restaurant in Kenosha with Cotton Candy on its menu and a full bar with a buy one drink, get one free Happy Hour (Monday-Friday 2-5pm). Mason’s opened in January 2016, and is conveniently located off Highway 50 between Interstate 94 and Green Bay Road (at 7000 74th Place). Co-owner Chris Gochis describes the business as a “Celtic themed sports pub”. He’s a Carthage College alumnus, and his business partner was born and raised in Kenosha.

Chris notes there aren’t a lot of locally owned restaurants on Highway 50 and Mason’s tries to be as community based as possible. For example, a Loyalty Program is offered, which allows charities, schools, and other organizations to benefit from ongoing fundraising.

They make as much of their food by scratch as they can. Burgers are handmade, steaks are cut in-house, and sauces are made in-house. They source at least 80% of the meats, poultry, produce and dairy from Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota. The menu offers Irish fare and a wide variety of other choices. Shepherds Pie, Mac ‘n Cheese (made fresh with a rich blend of Wisconsin’s finest cheeses), Crab Cakes, and Crab Cake Sliders are among the most popular items.

Along with the regular menu, limited time specials are offered to keep things fresh and show customers the restaurant’s originality. This special menu is updated four times a year, and has included such items as Brisket Pizza with a gluten-free crust, Irish Stew, Grilled Cheese Cheeseburger, Potato Skins, a Reuben, a Giant Bavarian Pretzel, and more.

More than 100 Domestic, Imported, and Craft Beers are available, as well as Irish Whiskey and Scotch. According to Mason’s website, “Mason’s crafted cocktails use only fresh made from scratch syrups, and hand pressed lemon and lime juices. Mason’s crafted cocktails feature some of the most unique liquors and liqueurs available.”

Lunch and dinner are served daily, with breakfast served on the weekend. Live entertainment is offered, from one-man acoustic shows to bands. There are 50 flat screen TVs – carrying all the sports packages. Up to 100 guests can be accommodated on site for birthday parties, work events, and other large gatherings. Off-catering services are also available; guests can order off the regular menu or a social menu.

As for that cotton candy – Chris says to remember when you were a kid and about the only place you could get cotton candy was at a carnival. It would be a treat to eat it and would put a big smile on your face. Now he sees that same big smile on everyone from a five year-old kid to an 85 year-old lady in his restaurant. “That’s the coolest thing in the world,” he says. He estimates they serve 80 to 100 Cotton Candy Stacks a night during a weekend.

“Come on out, give us a try,” Chris says. “Let us know what you think.” There’s always an owner in the building to talk with. He said customer feedback and word-of-mouth advertising is very important to them. They take pride in their service, their food, and the value they are providing guests.
