Iron Depot Winery is “not your typical Kenosha bar,” according to Vicki Luteran. She and her husband Michael opened the Downtown Kenosha business in March 2018. “We wanted to be something different and we really are. People really appreciate what we have to offer.” In a nutshell, the business is a wine shop, a bar, a gift shop, and an event venue. They moved to Kenosha from Pennsylvania because Michael’s family is here and they’ve always enjoyed visiting our lakefront community.

Wines are available from wineries in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and all over the world. The wines are offered by the glass, bottle, and flights, with options to enjoy on-site or to purchase to take home. Wine slushy flavors include peach, mango, blue raspberry, strawberry coconut – or a combination can be made. Pizza is served along with charcuterie, soft pretzels, and chocolates. Also available are beers, margaritas, mimosas, and non-alcoholic beverages.

“Our space is quite eclectic with so many collectibles, antiques, and unique gifts,” Vicki says. Apparel, original art pieces, jewelry, glassware, pottery, and more are part of the gift shop. You can take a break from shopping by playing board games in the home-like atmosphere.

The winery’s overall train theme comes from Michael’s 38 1/2 years as a welding foreman on the railroad and the house wines are labeled after railroad nicknames. Among the names are Nickel Plate, Chicago Rock Island, and Phoebe Snow. They custom built their own tables, chairs, and benches for guests to enjoy. Michael also hand makes historical pieces for toy soldier dioramas.

Iron Depot Winery serves as an event venue; the space has hosted weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, showers, anniversary and birthday parties, recital receptions, graduation parties, Christmas parties, and the like.

They also host their own events such as paint and sip classes; author visits; and Easter, St. Patrick’s Day, Mother’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, and other holiday themed events. Iron Depot Winery frequently partners with Crafty Kitchen to present four-course food and wine pairing events. Delicious foods are meticulously paired with specialty wines in a relaxed atmosphere. All the wines served at the dinners are available to purchase on-site.

Iron Depot Winery is located at 5000 7th Avenue. Whether you are a wine connoisseur looking to learn about wines, or just someone looking for a different kind of bar setting or gift shop, stop by Iron Depot. Ask about their upcoming events – or hold your own event there!
